I think bills should resign McKenzie over Kirk. Draft a guy to keep the heat on. Too much money to spend on WRs with 

 

Diggs, and Gabe Davis, McKenzie and maybe a low cost vet. Bringing back Sanders is perfect, since he can play slot as well.

Kirk - sign me up.  Bills need to get younger at WR.  Kirk, Davis and Diggs would be a great core for a couple of years.

 

 

 

 

I'm not a fan of Williams.   He has always struggled with emotional issues/behavior so not a sound investment, IMO.

 

Kirk seems likely to be too expensive to fit as a slot WR........especially when you consider that there is so much depth at receiver in the league right now.

 

I'd expect Beane to be shopping for bargains if they replace Beasley and McKenzie in the slot.

Paying two guards $8M annually each would mean they would need to cut Mitch Morse and save his $8M cap.  Otherwise I don't see this team paying 4 of the 5 OL FA contracts especially the big ones

I love the idea of having Bates fight for a spot on the line or moving back to the bench. The Bills need options at guard in case Bates is another Groy situation.

I don't think there's been a season when Beane hasn't surprised me with moves he's made.   I've learned to expect the unexpected from him, so I'm not prepared yet to say that the Bills will have no big-dollar signings.  

 

I think the roster will change more in the next six months than it did last season.   Clearly, there's likely to be some movement on the offensive line.   I think it'll happen on the defensive line, too.  The receiver room will change.   

 

Stuff's going to happen, and some of it will be surprising, just like Allen and Edmunds in one draft was surprising, just like trading for Diggs was surprising.

Yeah if we sign a free agent G bye bye Williams imo, and may have to adjust Morse somehow/way.

Probably him, Josh, and Darnold have all worked with Palmer in the offseasons I think they even lived together at one point.

Side note....My fatherly (or grandfatherly actually) advice to Josh is to sew up the deal with Brittany.  They seem like a very happy couple.  She appears to enjoy Buffalo and Bills Mafia.

I watched all of Christian Kirk's catches this past year. Most of them are little dinks and dunks with no YAC. Not very impressed.  I think I like Beasley better.

Bease is breaking down physically.  Kirk is thick, important when working the middle, and can challenge the seam deep.  I love the fit.

Surprised to see his 40 time at 4.46/4.48. That's not slow obviously but I thought he was a burner.

Definitely could..........he's excellent.

 

I just suspect that any big chips will be used on the OL or a pass rusher or *maybe* at CB2.

 

I could see them shopping in the McKenzie aisle for a slot WR and then maybe flipping Arizona a bag of balls for Andy Isabella.

 

James Washington has been mentioned by a couple people here as another reclamation WR project...........and he could probably back up or compete for some playing time with Davis..........maybe they even try to do some Deebo-back stuff with a guy built like that.

 

Maybe I am underestimating the chips Beane is going to spend on WR.............McD has called the position their "fastball"...........but I just suspect it's where they will try their luck with lottery tickets.

But I think we have to factor the difference between Aaron Kromer and the blocking scheme we were running with Roman as OC vs. Juan Castillo and the blocking scheme we were running during Daboll's first year - which frankly, I couldn't figure out except that whatever it was, the guys we had couldn't do it

 

And Groy was actually better than Russ Bodine, just as putting Teller in over Ducasse and Miller in over Sirles improved things somewhat on the OL

 

Still I take your point let's not bet the OL on Bates right now.

I put could in parentheses because I've found Mike G to have what seems like some insider knowledge when it comes to the Bills. A little later he said he liked Cowboys Guard, Connor Williams, to land in Buffalo where he'll be a better fit scheme wise on a 3 year - $21M deal.  I think cutting Feliciano is a given, but a move like this I would assume means the Bills would also cut/trade Daryl Williams. Connor Williams plays RG, so no way you're paying him $7M a year without moving Daryl, IMO.

 

That Christian Kirk move would be a pretty sick addition though. And would probably also forecast them moving on from Beasley. Mike G. didn't dive into the weeds on who he'd expect to be cut to make room for these moves, but I'd be interested to hear his take on that.  

 

I find it hard to believe Kirk will want to come to Buffalo.  One, it would have to likely be for less money than he would get elsewhere.  Two, he is going to want a bigger role where he can start as at least a #2 WR.  Coming here, he would be 3 on the WR depth chart and would be a role player rather than a major contributor.  Who ever fills that WR 3 spot, assuming everyone stays healthy, they are likely going to be a 400-700 yard receiver at most.  Too many mouths to feed here between Diggs, Davis, Knox, RB's and Allens legs.  

 

So, not a knock on Buffalo as a destination, its about opportunity and he won't get a lot of those here compared to going to a team where he can step in as one of the main targets right away and likely for more money too.  

 

So I just don't see Kirk as a realistic option for us because we as a team do not make a lot of sense for him.  He is young enough that he doesn't have to ring chase, and he is going to want an opportunity to prove himself and earn an even bigger payday on his next contract.  He will have plenty of suitors too.

If I were FA WR, I'd look for a few things when choosing a team.

 

*  Does the team win?  Is it playoff caliber?

 

*  Do they throw a lot?

 

*  Is the QB any good?

 

*  What role do they want me to play?  Will I be featured or forgotten?  

 

*  How much are they willing to pay?

 

We check most of the boxes though not all.  

 

I think it's possible that the pros outweigh the cons.

I think Washington is one of those guys who looked good in college (looked great in college, I really wanted him - LOL there's a reason I don't pipe up in the "draft this guy" threads) but he just can't adjust and gain separation in the pros

I think a lot of it depends upon how the Bills see Beasley

1) someone they really want to keep on the team - #2 in NFL for receptions out of the slot, equaled his career high with 82 receptions and a >70% catch rate

2) someone the Bills are a bit "over" -  whinging about fans on SM, getting fined $100K by the league, being injured and less effective for a handful of games mid-season (but unwilling to sit and heal up) - plus Father Time comes for us all

3) an unfortunate cap casualty

 

If Beasley is 2), then I can see Beane wanting to make a moderate "splash" in FA at WR, in a similar vein to what he did last season signing Manny Sands for almost the same amount we saved by cutting John Brown, as well as drafting a guy

I think they were all at the WM Phoenix Open.  Josh played in the Pro-Am side last year, doesn't seem to be playing this year but may want to watch.

Also pretty sure Christian Kirk trains as a WR with someone who works with Jordan Palmer.

 

So I wouldn't chalk it up as a "recruiting visit" at this point

I really wanted Isabella in the draft. He's surprisingly barely been used by Arizona, 31 catches in 36 career games (49 targets) over 3 seasons in a heavy passing offense. I'd love to get him, but if AZ loses Kirk, they probably have a use for Isabella & will keep him.
