As far as McKenzie goes there were some stories about how there was much more to the story with him about things going on at practice, etc.

 

Likely before any FA player signs with a team, they make some calls to contacts they might have or even friend of a friend to find out what it's really like on said team.  Other players know what went on behind the scenes and will tell.

 

Recall reading both this year and last Diggs was recruiting players to sign here.  Doesn't sound like there are issues going on to me.

At the risk of interrupting your never ending crusade against McDermott, if you don't think he owns up to his mistakes, or doesn't hold himself accountable regarding things for which he is responsible, then you haven't paid any attention over the last five years to those things that define the character of McDermott.

If this was the case, then 98% of players wouldn't sign extensions with the team that drafted them.  They would all hit the open free agent market where you can get more money.

We don't see the things that go on in practice and meeting rooms.  When we see a guy go to the bench in a game, we assume that it is because of a single and most recent misdeed.  Most likely, the benching is the culmination of multiple issues (the straw that finally broke the camel's back so to speak).  Players on a good team aren't going to support a player that is a continuous screw-up.  If a coach lets bad play slide, he'll lose the entire team.

 

Most players want to play on a winning team.  As long as Beane, McD, and Allen are in Buffalo, they will be a reason for players wanting to play there.

Eh.  There are reasons to sign an extension with the drafting team that are consistent with "only care about the money".  Just off the top of my head:

1) Extensions are usually signed a season before the player hits FA.  Exchanging your current contract for an extension that pays more and perhaps has better guarantees can be a sound fiscal decision - the "bird in the hand" vs "bird in the bush" thing

2) Depending upon the position played, the player may believe they have more value to that team than they would on the open market

3) There's $$ and then there's guaranteed $$

4) The drafting team could be located in a state where the player gets to keep more of their $$, eg no state taxes

Yeah I doubt McDermott would scare away a player. And if said player were so intimidated McD wouldn't choose that guy anyway.  dude wouldn't  even make it past pre screen interviews.....That's what I think.
