CorkScrewHill Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 The Bills per reports wanted him to be their assistant QB coach, but he elected to continue his playing career. It is hard to give up the dream, but his future is likely brighter as a Assistant QB coach -> QB coach -> OC -> head coach as that is the most popular pipeline. https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/report-bills-wanted-to-hire-giants-davis-webb-as-assistant-qb-coach/ar-AAU22pi 2 Quote
Captain Hindsight Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 I wondered if that was the case. Makes sense, He's been with the organization for a few years, is very smart and respected, but his days of playing any meaningful snaps are over. I wonder if he gets cut by the Giants the Bills hire him in season Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 I wonder if he will race Daniel Jones in practice? Will Jones fall at least 25% of the time? 2 Quote

In the meantime he gets to build his resume, reputation and make connections while still being "one of the guys". He's not playing so he's still not absorbing hits. 2 Quote

All of the above plus he will make more money as a player than an assistant QB coach. 3 1 Quote

Plus if he kicks around long enough he qualifies for the player pension program. Smart move. 4 2 Quote
Mr. WEO Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Good for him. How many QB coaches do the Bills need? Quote
Ridgewaycynic2013 Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 He's been around long enough to know it's 'laces out', if he's called upon to hold on FG and PAT.👌👍😁 1 Quote

The Wiz Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 "Elected to keep coaching from the bench" is probably more accurate. Smart move either way. Quote

Be that as it may, I can't think of another Bills player so far down the depth chart who will be missed as much. Could be easily argued that he was a more valuable BU-QB than Trubisky was last season. 2 Quote
First Round Bust Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 (edited) good for him...following in the footsteps of another Bills obsure clipboard holder, who attended five straight super bowls without playing, or is that paying ? as well as 8 years in the NFL...great work if you can get it..and another accolade, he is a unique trivia question...suck on it Trebek Gale Reed Gilbert is a former American football quarterback who played eight seasons in the National Football League for the Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills, and San Diego Chargers. He is the only player in NFL history to be on five consecutive Super Bowl teams, none of which won. Edited February 18, 2022 by First Round Bust Quote

Coach Tuesday Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Sounds like he’ll be named our assistant QB coach in late August. 2 Quote
Doc Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Hey, if he can sucker some team into paying him $1M to basically be an assistant QB coach, more power to him. Get it while you can. 1 Quote
Saxum Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Would it be against the rules for him to organize the annual Florida WR-QB summer off-season workout? We do not play the Giants this year. Quote
Mango Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 He makes $1M per year without a ton of responsibility and a decent amount of job security. The best paid QB coach in the NCAA makes $700k. Why make less money to most likely be home way less with your family. Don't forget the offseason for the players is also waaaay different than the offseason for the coaching staff. Webb can watch film from anywhere. Hit the gym anywhere. Get his kids to school. Go to middle school basketball games. Pick up and go on a two week vacation to St. Thomas anytime he wants. Coaches are still in the facility daily. So I can't imagine why anybody would want to drop 3rd string QB money to go be an assistant to an assistant coach. 3 Quote
