The $12.7m is full guaranteed the moment the 5th year option was signed. That is a change in the latest CBA. The only way the Bills are not on the hook for that is if they can get someone to trade for Edmunds. If they cut him they pay the money. What I see on Spotrac: PRE-6/1 RELEASE 2022 Dead Cap: $12,716,000 2022 Cap Savings: $0 I stand corrected. I must have mis read. Will change that portion. Apologies 1 Quote

Which is what you want from your depth LBers and I think I am ok with him in that role, but I am not sure I am ok at his cap number. When we start looking at though that ONLY contribute on ST, I think you would see a high number of cap allocated to that unit compared to the rest of the league however my tools do not do that, maybe I will make a tool that does down the line. But you add him, Jones, Neal Smith could go on there are a lot of ST only players still, that would be fine if they were in cheap contracts. I would happily help you track this because I hear this said a lot any initial cursory look at it suggested that while the the Bills are top 3rd they are not that far away from the average. The qualifier I was using fewer than 25% of snaps on offense or defense and more than 40% on special teams. Quote

That would be awesome to look at honestly, because it is a feeling I cannot shake that we do spend alot compared to other teams on ST, While a very important part of the game, it really isnt as much anymore with the rules and such. But would help quantify the feeling that we pay a good amount for players that are mostly special teams players compared to rest of the league. That could be very well that our ST contributors are of the older variety too and not many rookies mixed in because our starters are on the younger side as well, so end of the day could be a nuanced year to year thing. They do get good production as a result though. They were top 5 in both coverage units this year, their FG kicker was among the best in the league, McKenzie was 6th in punt return average. Kick returns were not as good this year (but were in previous years with Dre) but obviously they struggled punting this year. I hated the Haack signing from day 1. Cut him immediately. I am more pro-STs than you but I do think the resource allocation thing would be interesting to track a bit more - both in terms of spots and in terms of cap $$s. 1 1 Quote
