The thing is, lots of negative stuff about Flores came out all season long, way before his firing.

You can just Google and read things from weeks to months ago about the dysfunction on his staff.

I don't claim to know the inner workings but it seems to me that Flores passed over a number of qualified coaches to hire who he wanted. Apparently his intentions were pure, making him unique I suppose.

It could also be that he's a bit of a head case. Time will tell.

Does it bother anyone else that our Offensive Coordinator had (at least on some level) a texting relationship with a divisional opponents head coach?

Considering they worked together for a lot of years.  No.

As an aside, the only thing that could've made those texts even more funny is if he had "White Brian" and "Black Brian" as his contacts.

also considering how that game turned out I don't know why I'd care.

I had a good chuckle at this part

21. Incredibly, this was not Mr. Flores’ first sham interview that was held only in an effort to comply with the Rooney Rule. Indeed, in 2019 Mr. Flores was scheduled to interview with the Denver Broncos. However, the Broncos’ then-General Manager, John Elway, President and Chief Executive Officer Joe Ellis and others, showed up an hour late to the interview. They looked completely disheveled, and it was obvious that they had drinking heavily the night before. It was clear from the substance of the interview that Mr. Flores was interviewed only because of the Rooney Rule, and that the Broncos never had any intention to consider him as a legitimate candidate for the job. Shortly thereafter, Vic Fangio, a white man, was hired to be the Head Coach of the Broncos.

I am not a lawyer, but I don't see how Flores could win this. Unless people in Miami/NYG ownership were stupid enough to send an email saying "We're not hiring Flores because he's black". Teams are free to hire/fire whomever they want.

I wonder if the league's response to this would be to nix the Rooney Rule ?

There is one black head coach in the NFL right now, Mike Tomlin.  Yet guys like Jason Garrett Joe Judge Matt Nagy and Vick Fangio continue to roam the sidelines.  I am by no means a "Social Injustice" supporter.  But something is not right when there is only one black head coach in the NFL in 2022

Every one of those coaches was fired.

This is such a bad argument. Why does it have to be even ratios of race on white to black? I would argue most coaches did not play very long because they simply werent that good, but loved the game - so they transitioned to the coaching side early in their career instead of being banged up and battered for a decade or more on the field. Nothing wrong with this, just saying maybe a player is more "done" after getting beaten up so long.

What NFL head coaches were long time players? I can think of Reich and Vrabel, not like I have an extensive knowledge of all the coaches playing careers. Most coaches, Belicheck, Reid, Carroll, Arians, McDermott, Tomlin...even up and coming coordinators and coaches like Dorsey, Kellen Moore had short careers that did basically nothing after college. Look at the new young coaches, Shannahan, McVay, Bengals Zack whatever, Stefanski. They are young coaches because they pretty much went straight into coaching rather than pursue playing.

Maybe Byron Leftwhich gets his shot soon? But the argument I see "well players are this, so coaches should be equal ratio or close" is kind of flat imo. Should a woman never get a head coach or coordinator job? No females currently are in the NFL.

The part maybe we should ask is why collegiate black players who arent expected to make it at NFL level dont seem to turn to coaching early as much?

While typing this I started looking up recent black head coaches, I know Leslie Frazier played. David Culley went into coaching right out of college. Marvin Lewis same thing... BRIAN FLORES (injury prevented him from NFL so he went to coaching). Robert Saleh, Jim Caldwell, Hugh Jackson.

David Culley looks more white then black to me.

There something like 14 black head coaches out of 130 FBS college football schools.

How many black offensive coordinators do you think there are.

It's not an NFL problem. College football is even worse when you think about boosters and alumni basically making the hires.

2 GM jobs went to men of color this cycle, which is encouraging on this front. You don't see that really mentioned though.

I would have liked to see Leftwich get the Jax job and Caldwell get another chance as well. Maybe they still will.

There's a lot of really good candidates like Ryans, Leftwich, Staley, Glenn, Graham that might need just a bit more experience but could be the next generation of young HC

But as many have mentioned, almost all defensive coaches when the league seems to want 25 year old assistant WR coaches who spent 5 minutes with Sean Mcvay

That is laughable. There is no way Dabol would’ve left Josh Allen for a lateral move and risking his chances at a future HC job with Tua and Flores who is clearly a head-case.

Not Tua:  Daniel Jones.

The claim in the lawsuit is that McDonnell, the Giants pro personnel dude (allegedly) texted Flores on January 11 that he "heard Daboll isn't happy with McDermott in Buffalo and might be able to get out of it if he doesn't get a HC job" implied: in order to take a position as Flores' OC for the Giants.

It's worth noting that the Giants didn't interview Schoen until January 12 or hire him until January 21.

I know they all got fired.  But my point is that they all sucked as head coaches.  And black head coaches who suck should get fired also.  They just need to be given a chance first.  I can not believe that Joe Judge was highly qualified to do anything on a football field that would make him head coaching material.  Just very weird how a sport whose players are predominantly black has so few coaches that are black.

And good for Flores tearing the Dolphins, Broncos and Giants a new one.  Elway has been a drunken fool since leaving the game.  Ross is a coockoo.  And the Giants have become a joke of a franchise.  Good luck Daboll.

This may have been said before, but I pray the saints hire Flores as a “screw you” to the league

In the link above, that's one thing Flores floated as a possibility.

I think Leftwich is still in consideration for New Orleans; what's being circulated out there is that Leftwich not being hired in Jax is on his own doing, because he didn't want to work with Trent Baalke as his GM and requested that they release Baalke and hire a GM of his choosing.

To which I say good for him to be confident in himself and not take a HC job on terms he was not comfortable with.

So Flores was willing to circumvent the Rooney Rule when it suited him, because he knew a guy from NE.
