So Webb made $165k plus $36,700 (one game at NFL minimum) or about $200k. Which is still more than most of the US population earns. It's my understanding that a full position coach, such as an RB coach, or a QB coach, could make $200-400k, but that his assistants (assistant QB coach, offensive assistant) might be paid more in the 5-figure range, $40-50k since these are kind of considered an apprenticeship. Said to be hiring Joe Brady https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33201753 Getzenberg/ESPN is usually pretty reliable. Guess where he went to college.... Penn St? Quote
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Isn't the entire idea of a "Futures Contract" to lock the player up as soon as the season ends? Could be the Bills figure no other team is likely to sign him, or he's been a loyal well liked player, maybe he asked the Bills not to sign him so he can see if there's interest elsewhere. If not maybe he does come back to Bills until he does go into coaching at some some point. Considering there is now officially an open Assistant QB coach position available, maybe the Bills just keep the slot open until he's ready to hang up the cleats. In the mean time he fills that position and is available to play when/if needed. Quote

He doesn't have to "ask the Bills not to sign him". If he's offered a futures contract, all he has to do is...not sign it Yes, the idea of a futures contract is to lock the player up as soon as the new league year starts, instead of having them be a free agent. It gives the PS guys a tiny bit of security telling them they'll be brought into OTAs and camp with a team, but it doesn't give them any $$ AFAIK. Quote

OK wondered about that if player had option to sign it or not. So also possible he told the Bills he wasn't going to sign one, or just not a priority with him as he's not going anywhere. Did read someplace teams can pay more that league required amounts to PS players, so if wanted Bills could pay him more for "coaching help" Quote
skibum Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Maybe he's not ready to give up on the chance of signing somewhere for a roster player's salary. Even league minimum would be nice. Looking unlikely, but maybe worth a shot. I just can't believe the Bills would walk away from him, knowing how important he has been to Josh Allen's prep. But that's just what I read somewhere, I don't actually know anything. Quote

MJS Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Duh. That was never going to happen. People were saying the same thing about Anderson a few years ago. By and large, players do not want to get into coaching. Sometimes they do, but usually they don't. Quote
