Numbers 0 and 00 are no longer used, though they were issued in the NFL before the number standardization in 1973. Probably someone in the CFL, and Jim Otto, C for the Oakland Raiders v. 1.0 wore '00'.

I say no. I love the number 17. Its a real QB number like Don Meredith wore. I hate seeing QBs run around in kicker numbers (1, 2,3,4...)

What's your problem with the number 16?? Much more lucky than 17 (remember, in many countries they don't have elevators with the number 17 in them).

 

If Josh really wants to use a 1 or a 7, use a multiple of 1+7...8 or 16.

I think Matt Cassel was #16.

 

When drafted I waned him to be #13 like Kurt Warner.

 

But really, IMHO, the number a QB wears on his back has nothing to do with wether his team's D can stop a team from getting in FG range in 13 seconds.

 

Besides, if an NFL player changes his number he has to buy all the old number Jerseys in stock. I'd hate to see poor Josh waste  his money on this.

 

He was #17 in college too so its probably a lost cause.

Funny, I never thought of it but not a lot of well-regarded QBs have worn 17. Philip Rivers may be the best, then there's Dave Krieg, Jake Delhomme, Don Meredith, Doug Williams, Steve DeBerg, and Billy Kilmer.

 

Other notables in sport: Wendel Clark, Jari Kurri, Rick Fox (barf), Ilya Kovachuk, Felipe Alou, Chris Mullen, Keith Hernandez, Hondo. 

 

But yeah, not a lot of all-time greats in the mix. Hondo and Kurri, then maybe Kovalchuk, Rivers, Alou, Clark, and Mullen if we're ranking.

 

Great opportunity for JA to become the greatest to ever wear the 17! I love obscure jersey numbers.
