This is best ball.  Not to be confused with a scramble. People use these labels interchangeably but they are two different things.  This tournament is best ball.

Ahh got ya - yep that’s it. Makes sense now - Mitchell said as a joke that he only needs Josh to par the 9 toughest holes. This is because Josh is playing to a 9 and a par on the toughest 9 = a birdie

PEBBLE BEACH – Outside of the confines of Buffalo and perhaps his hometown of Firebaugh in the San Joaquin Valley, Josh Allen can still stroll around without being recognized.

A chiseled golfer with movie star looks, though, does at least create curiosity on the golf links, punctuated with 300-yard drives.

Allen, who is taking part this weekend in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am for the first time, has evolved into one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL. Yet, only a few fans seem to recognize the 25-year-old on the greens.

(....)

Two weeks removed from playing in arguably one of the wildest NFL playoff games in the league’s 101-year history, Allen was calmly swinging golf clubs on some of the nicest courses in the world.

“Going from using a silent cadence because you can’t even hear your own thoughts, to your thoughts being the loudest thing you hear on the golf course – sometimes that’s almost as scary,” Allen said.

It was eerie silent at times Thursday as galleries flocked to find the likes of actor/comedian Bill Murray, who teed off 43 minutes earlier, while others wanted a glimpse at boxer Canelo Alvarez.

they'll be playing tomorrow.

just did an interview on the 17th. says he's forever a fan of Keith mitchell now, is feeling better behind the ball after knocking some rust off and will be calling his golf coach after this.

funny little bit on the feature hole feed on ESPN + fan asked josh if his caddies failed him after a short miss at par, he responded with "yes, yes they did!" lol

I have a new found appreciation for Josh didn't know he was a big golfer.

Josh just did a walking interview with Aurora Borealis or whatever her name is.

She said the rumor is he's grinding harder on the range than some of the tour pros, asked if he's always the hardest working guy at whatever he does!

Allen had help from that standpoint Thursday, playing alongside pro partner Keith Mitchell and former Cardinals receiver and 2020 Pro-Am winner Larry Fitzgerald.

Both provided advice on certain shots for Allen, whose lengthy drives weren’t always as accurate as the 60-yard missiles he launches on the football field.

Do not forward this article to Nick Wright or PFF.

Mitchell is in 10th place and is playing tomorrow. Only the top 25 pro-am partners play tomorrow - so Josh is done unfortunately. He needed -19 or better and ended up -15.

Maybe on Thursday mercury sun but everyone on that golf course today knew who Josh Allen was.  You constantly overheard about the number of Bills fans there. It was an awesome Bills experience. Watched them lose twice this year (kc and Indy) and while I would of rather him not be eligible to have played in this event this year, it was a nice consolation prize in some respect.  Him and his family were super cool and nice to my kids; he signed the autographs, gave fist bumps, posed for photos and created some great memories.  In words of TO “that’s my quarterback”.   Long live JA17. Go Bills.

Bummer, but I’m sure he relished the experience and that it helped him recover and reset mentally much more than being a pro-bowl alternate would have

He absolutely made the right decision.  Decompress and tell the pro bowl to go fish. I'm sure he had a great time playing those amazing courses. He's definitely got golf chops.
