Is Singletary good enough?

Singletary just put up another solid season with 4.6 YPC, 870 yards rushing, and 7 TDs. He had another 40 receptions but only 250 yards in receiving. 

Somehow it took 13 games to make him the feature back. Once that happened he looked really good down the stretch. A few more carries at the beginning of the year and he easily surpasses 1000 yards rushing.  Of course that is when Bates was inserted into the OL starting unit and the entire line started playing better.

 

I was a draft Najee Harris guy last year. 

 

Now I'm thinking, at least for 2022 I'm fine with Singletary being the feature back. I'm even fine with Moss and a cheap FA as the backups.  I just don't see RB as a top need now and they have at least 5 or 6 other spots that need or could be addressed before RB. 

 

What does the board think?

I want a big bruiser back that can carry the load on 3rd and 4th down plays.......take pressure off of JA and move the pile.

No, especially if he got injured then there is no option. Most teams have multiple rbs that can step in and be productive. Plus he is in final year of contract and we need to prepare for if or when he leaves for more $.

I don't think Motor can sustain for the whole year what he did late this year.  He deserves the chance to but we should have some insurance better than Moss.

Motor is a solid second string level back. But he is not a premier guy. Sure, if he gets opportunities he’s going to put up some solid stats. Problem is he isn’t a home run hitter. He simply doesn’t have the speed to break away (from even LBs) not the ability to make people miss. 
 

Simply said, Motor doesn’t scare opposing defenses. 
 

I have no doubt we can do better than Motor. Although, he’s great to have as a change of pace back IMO.

I'm on the fence.  He's good enough that he deserves a chance at the job,  but I also think they could stand some decent competition at the RB position.  At the very least,  I think they need to do better than Moss.

We need another solid back as a complement Singletary. Either to replace Moss as the "move the pile" back (which Moss failed to do too often) or as more of a home run threat (like a Breida who can actually block and knows the plays). All good teams need two or more fairly effective backs. Motor is one.

The Bills need a guy that can slither through a hole or take it outside and run away from everyone. Devin would be a great 2nd option RB. Or we could just find a freak like Travis Henry who can do anything.

I would sign Fournette from Tampa,  has both speed and power.  Remember Edmunds meeting him in the hole on 3rd and short and he broke tackle. Also is able to make big chunk runs. Sign him as main back and make Singletary backup.  He showed on Sunday he still does not have burst/speed to hit the hole.  Hole was open on key second and short and he just kept going wide and got shut down.

 

We cannot have another season of seeing Allen running the ball and taking hits,  they ran Allen so much because others could not get it done.  We need a upgrade and Moss should be cut

Yes, could they do better?  Maybe.  Moss was supposed to be.  With Allen, I don't see Buffalo investing a lot into Rbs.  Late picks, cheap FA should land you a serviceable one, some cases an elite one.

We have a few other issues that need addressing before another RB - middle LB, CB opposite Tre’, consistent OL depth.  3rd or 4th WR pending offseason moves - Sanders who can go,  Beasley and whatever happens with him.  See him as 3rd or most likely 4th. Davis will be escalated to 2nd string.

 

TE?  Seems to be not talked about much.  Knox is a number one.  Is Sweeney a 2?  Not sure.  Who else do we have?  Gilliam?  Not sure he fits as a two or three.

Not the worlds biggest singletary fan.  Would rather priortize a better oline though than a better running back.

So true. Singletary is not an RB1 nor will he ever be at 4.66 speed. Moss is a terrible backup so yes we need more depth at RB. Just like we need someone better than Sweeney to backup Knox.

Motor is a good, high-effort guy - but not an upper tier starter.

 

It would be cool to have another, better back.   Lots of different types of backs could add to this offense:

 

*  A Thurman type who can run, block and catch.

*  An OJ type who can run so well it puts fear in the D and they have to account for him.

*  A Cookie type who can pound the rock up the middle and wear a defense down.
