cv05 Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Nothing earth shattering but I found it interesting none the less. A few thoughts: He seemed surprised he hasn't learned anything about what broke down. He said something like "I'm usually the Adam Schefter of the team, but nothing, I don't know anything" He was (understandably) critical of the defense during the 13 seconds in a few comments You can tell he and McDermott clash - I can't imagine he's coming back next year Quote
YoloinOhio Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 Ive listened to these pretty much every week and referenced in the thread where I don’t think he’s returning - he made a lot of comments all year about things he doesn’t like. Personally, I think it’s time he look at some other options if he has them. 3 2 Quote

Chiefs for example have a bunch of guys that have "character" concerns - seems like a coach like Andy Reid can put his ego aside and value the skill, while McDermott may take a different approach. 3 Quote
Coach Tuesday Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 I know it's a common knee-jerk reaction here always, but there does happen to be a team in our division that needs to add some speed at the WR spot and whom McKenzie just happened to play his best against this season... 1 1 Quote
MiltonWaddams Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 (edited) I can’t blame a guy for being upset. He came up big when he was needed, but was pushed aside for a receiver that had no yards after completion and whose body seems to have broken down. That’s nothing against Beasley, but if I was the other slot receiver who had the results that l’il dirty had, I would be pretty frustrated as well. Dr. Who Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 This is a team that needs speed and they're likely going to let this fella walk? And they kept Davis off the field for much of the season. Really curious asset management. 5 10 2 Quote

The past 2 years at least, the Bills either didn’t tender him as an RFA or let him go find a deal as a UFA and he’s never found anything. I think Bill fans overvalue him a bit because he’s a fun personality. I think he’s a good depth guy and if he wants to come back again on a small deal that’s fine but I’m not handing decent money to him because he’s not consistent enough at the return game. Would rather draft someone to replace him cheap or sign someone in FA who can return more consistently. 2 5 2 1 Quote
Cruiserplayer Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 One year from now we will be saying: Isiah McKenzie is to wide receivers as Corey Bojorquez is to punters. 2 1 2 Quote
beebe Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 This was one of the most interesting player interviews I've ever heard. Really enjoyed this. Surprised by some of the candid comments. 1 Quote

Or at least point at the timeline in this episode where he says stuff? 17 minutes ago, cv05 said: Yeah, pretty interesting to contrast what his experience would be like on another team. How is this parallel? No one thinks McKenzie has "character" concerns, surely? And even McDermott has said very positive things about McKenzie at times. 2 Quote

Little things like that. He actually said he learned a lot from being benched. He needs coached hard. 1 Quote
Ya Digg? Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 The guy obviously has something, but are things just not completely clicking for him or is it something that the coaching staff doesn't see? Or both? Quote
YoloinOhio Posted January 28, 2022 Posted January 28, 2022 One thing that I found interesting is that his best friend, Isaiah Hodgins, signed a reserve/futures contract with the bills. I thought he might look to see what else is out there since he never sees the field after 2 years. 1 Quote

I could see a guy like McDermott taking issue with that personality type and letting it get in the way of potential value to the team. That was the only point I was trying to make. 1 Quote

He played quite a bit for his depth spot. 3 minutes ago, cv05 said: Fair enough. I guess the parallel for me is that he's often referred to as a goofball by teammates. I don’t think he has character concerns per se. But maybe immaturity. Posting his covid violations/fines on Twitter and getting into all of that on social media in preseason was stupid. Especially for a fringe guy. Edited January 28, 2022 by YoloinOhio 3 1 Quote
Ya Digg? I honestly don't know if he should have been playing more...I know people are going to point to the Patriots to say he definitely should have played more and the obvious answer is to get more playing time than Beasley, but I seriously don't know. I like McKenzie, but I would have to think that if he should've gotten more playing time, it definitely would've happened considering he has been here for what, 3 or 4 years? Quote

And even McDermott has said very positive things about McKenzie at times. I do, and have the whole season, for multiple reasons. His cavalier attitude towards vaccination, the fines for breaking protocol, and telling everyone on twitter that he was already vaxxed and then tweeting the next week that he just got his first shot. His jokester attitude in a lot of clips comes off as maybe he's joking around too much instead of taking his work seriously. His bad attitude when he got benched and cried about it on twitter. I dont think he's a scumbag, or criminal, or a bad person. But I do feel he has work ethic issues, and some "football character" concerns. I wasnt one bit surprised to hear he ended up in McDermott's dog house at some point this season. I know he's your boy (to a weird degree, btw), but he isnt as beyond reproach as you often make him out to be. 5 1 1 4 Quote
