Based on what? Being a good coordinator doesn't make you a good head coach. Totally different skill sets. He will have to prove it was a good hire based on how he does.

Based on the fact he has been an excellent coordinator and being promoted makes sense for a guy like him.

Of course its a projection, but IMO, its a damn good one

odd hire, you'd think they go offense.

Bad. If they went D, was hoping they would take Frazier.

Perhaps Frazier letting up 45 running points to the Colts while Eberflus held Allen to 15 helped.

I simply would NOT hire a defensive guy as my head coach in the modern NFL, period.

He's still a quality guy though.

when is someone taking Frazier from us.  Please, anyone.  Will Arians please retire>?  New Orleans?

Watch, we'll be stuck with both Frazier and Dabs. No picks, no change to an aggressive D.  Maybe someone takes Dabol but no one wants Frazier.

Well if Daboll goes the Miami route, the Giants can have Frazier...😉

I felt like this was the only real threat for losing Frazier, and now he's survived that.

It's now sounding like Daboll goes to Miami.  If he clears THAT, we may end up retaining both of these guys--which is OK.

Keeping everyone for another run is a solid path.

I have a lot of friends who are Bears fans, they were pretty split between wanting Daboll and Flores. The ones who wanted Flores wanted a defensive HC who would hire an OC who's primary job was to develop Fields.

This hire makes sense, as would brining in Caldwell to develop Fields.

Why would hiring a 67 year old coach who has never developed a QB make sense for a struggling project  like Fields?

Giants - Flores

Dolphins - Daboll

Texans - Someone who doesn't value their career

Jags - Leftwich

Vikings - Morris

Saints - Allen

Raiders - Mayo

Actual best soon to be available job:

Bills OC:

Pep Hamilton

I mean Peyton Manning credits Caldwell with his development. So I'll go with Peyton's opinion on that one. Matt Stafford as well.

You want to draft a Punter in the 3rd round?

Not necessarily. I want more draft capital so the aren't afraid to use a pick for a specialist. Third seems rich, but Mitch Wishnowsky when in the beginning of the 4th. I think the 80 yard legatron dude probably goes end third round comp pick area.

That was nice of Peyton.  But that was 20 years ago and Manning was already a league leading passer and a  2 time Pro Bowler averaging over 4100 yards and 28 TD a season before Caldwell showed up.  Plus, the 2 are light years apart in where they were as QB's coming into the NFL.

Plus, Manning was an immobile pocket QB smarter than most QBs and Fields, a modern dual threat QB, is like no QB Caldwell has ever coached.

if Frazier is not hired, and we don't fire him, I have to seriously question whether I will spend any money on this team next year.  This is beginning to remind me of the Pirates, who I quit on, with owners who are not committed to winning, but only to $$$$.  You don't end a season like that, with a paper #1 D, and bring back Frazier.  He needs to be gone one way or another.  And if no one wants him as HC, there is a reason, and that reason is because he sucks as DC, so someone needs to ask McD and Pegs why we kept him then.

Eh, I just don't understand why the Bears wouldn't go with an experienced HC. But this hire is going to come down to who he gets as his OC to work with Fields.

And that is no knock to Eberflus. I just think it is a weird process.

I think teams are trying to copy the Buffalo hires.  Seeing how McDermott completely changed the culture while literally cleaning out the whole roster is looked at as the gold standard in the last 5 years.

Teams trying to replicate.
