The ultimate pain would be Chiefs getting two extra picks for Poles hire while Frazier doesn't get a HC job and we get none, but lose Daboll and Schoen instead.

Quote

Two full weeks after starting his general manager search and less than 24 hours before he ended it, Bears chairman George McCaskey went to O’Hare International Airport on Monday night to pick up Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles.

McCaskey wore a Bears letterman’s jacket with a matching mask and, as seen in a video that went viral on social media, carried a sign as if he was a limo driver. The name on the sign: “Canandaigua,” Poles’ 10,000-person hometown in western New York.

McCaskey then made sure he didn’t put the 36-year-old back on the plane, hiring Poles as the team’s next general manager Tuesday and ending the Bears’ GM search 15 days after firing Ryan Pace.

I'm wondering what impact hiring Poles will have on consideration of Daboll and of Frazier as possible HC candidates for the Bears.

For one thing, the new hire may have an "NIH" (not invented here) attitude, and/or may want to bring in his own guys.

I would expect Bienemy and Spagnuolo to get looks as the Bears HC now.

I would expect Poles to not be too interested in a defensive coach who Bienemy/Reid have been able to steal lunchmoney from and kick sand in his face (Frazier)

How does the comp pick situation work if Bienemy gets a HC gig, along with Poles already getting a GM spot?

Jesus they would get 4 picks in that scenario...max pain.

I believe in that case, they get 2 extra 3rd round picks this year and 2 extra 3rd round picks next year.

Unreal.  I don't even know what to say to that.

Does this apply to promotions from within? Example, Andy Reid retires and Chiefs promote EB to HC. Do they get picks or has to be external hire?

That’s not quite correct.  If multiple coaches get hired in the same year, 2 comp picks are awarded for the first and only 1 is awarded for additional hires.

Frazier ain’t getting hired after that s**tshow Sunday night…

Two interesting points should be made here: (1) if Frazier is not hired, then (2) are we incredibly stupid for keeping him and his porous over-ranked D around for another year?  Clearly if he's not hired, other FO's notice that our D ranking was inflated because of the barrage of bad QB's we faced, and his soft "prevent" D in the final 13 seconds should have had him fired by now.  Hopefully we are waiting, and if no job offer emerges, he's gone.  Way too passive D.  No blitzing, not bumping WR/TE's, it's just absurd.  Frazier got abused by Kelcie calling plays against him.

this is true.  (I do worry about any team getting extra picks).  But we can't structure ourselves to beat a specific team.  Winning teams don't do this.  The Pats*** never did this, Steelers did not do this, etc.  Winning teams make teams that can beat you in a multitude of ways so it does not matter who they play.  They have impact players at several key areas, and good schemes.

Yes they get more chances to get it right, but not all draft picks workout, the Chiefs are not known for drafting great players, they got lucky with HIll & Kelce, but look at their most recent draft picks and how the faired.

Most of their talent came from FA signings.

For some reason, people on this forum think that our team is somehow at fault when other teams get good.  I don't get it.

Lol, the NFL can't even affirmative action right.

If you're trying to incentivize the hiring of certain demographics, you should be giving picks to the team who actually HIRES the minority candidate. How the hell does giving picks to the team you hire them from do anything to boost the numbers they're looking for?

Well, the fact that it doesn't incentivize the team that hires means the candidate got hired on their own merit. While rewarding the team that developed the candidate incentivizes giving minority candidates a shot in the first place.

This might be accurate, but it's shortsighted.

It's kind of like saying Belichick isn't worthy of being a HC because of his recent s**tshow.

Frazier has worked as a coach for 30+ years.   He's not defined by one evening.
