Think Chicago spoke to him but they spoke to about 20 people in round 1. I know it was a disaster with the Raiders but he was young and out of his depth in a dysfunctional organisation. He can coach. 1 1 Quote
Casey D Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I don't know what his contract provides, but generally if he has three years left on his contract he cannot just go elsewhere-- he is obligated to the Saints. It is the flip side of being terminated-- you still get paid over the life of the contract, see, e.g, Rex Ryan. He cannot be forced to work for the Saints, but I believe that the Saints could preclude him from working elsewhere, absent the Saints releasing him in return for other considerations, like cash or draft picks. Again he may have a termination clause in his contract or something, but I do not think you can assume he is free to take another job during the life of the contract. Quote

Yes, the Cowboys would be a very attractive landing, and Payton would look very attractive to Jerry Jones. 1 1 Quote

Kinda like when Marshawn came back to the raiders but the Seahawks technically still possessed his contractual rights i think the starting point in the analysis is Sean Payton's actual contract. coaches dont have a CBA with standard provisions. They dont have a salary cap. Payton could easily have leveraged some out-clauses over the years. 24 minutes ago, Casey D said: I don't know what his contract provides, but generally if he has three years left on his contract he cannot just go elsewhere-- he is obligated to the Saints. dpberr Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 He'll waive the remaining years of the contract and take a job in broadcasting for a year. Saints keep their money and save face. I know the Cowboys are a trendy pick, but Payton isn't a yes Jerry! guy. Quote

thenorthremembers Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 So is it Pete Carmichael, Dennis Allen or do they bring back Joe Lombardi? Quote

Big Turk Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Stepping down from a team with no QB and $71m over the cap is what he is doing. 1 Quote

Indy has to deal with Wentz money for another year so I’m not sure why people think Rodgers is going there. They have to eat that money some how 15 million if they cut and someone would have to pay him over 28 million to take him on. I guess they could do it if they want to eat the salary. Quote

Southern_Bills Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Well the Saints will officially be a bottom dweller. Payton is a good coach, he will be back on a new team next year. Quote
