Flutie recovers his sense of belonging

Quarterback Doug Flutie returned to Chargers practice in earnest Thursday after missing nearly three weeks because of a knee injury.

Flutie, 41, participated in his first full workout since his Aug. 5 arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. He went through light drills Wednesday.

"It was fun,'' Flutie said. "It was nice to get back out there and feel like I belong. I was on the outside looking in for about 2 1/2 weeks."

The sight of Flutie bouncing about can't be overstated.

One of the joys of this forum, even lo these many years since, is reading every post that has to do with Flutie. You get to read the former Rob Johnson backers comment about Flutie's size and his personality, his hairstyle, and his alleged backstabbing. These guys talk brave on the internet, but then they have to go back to the office tomorrow, where real people remember that at the time they said Johnson was the better QB. The boys at the office will never let them forget it.

So what was it about Flutie's size?...come on, tell me how he had to jump to see over the line. Please tell it to me one more time.

Oh, and his personality...can you tell it to me once again, with feeling?

Oh, and the part about his backstabbing in the locker room. Come on, you brave anonymous football experts. Say it over again, then over again, then over again...but the guys you work with know you backed Johnson, and your credibility on any football issue has been laughable ever since.

And one more time...in and amongst your snide little references to size, personality, hairstyle--can you work "21-9" in there somewhere?

What about the folks who thought they both stunk and wanted Van Pelt in? V-Gun all the way.
