st pete gogolak Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 It would have been really smart and contrary to every football instinct, but watch last catch in regulation by Kelce. He goes to the ground with about three seconds left. If he isn't touched, refs can't blow whistle and KC can't call TO until the whistle blows. Hey, I'm grasping at straws here but baiting KC into throwing to the middle of the field and NOT tackling the KC receiver could have been a viable strategy. Quote
Billl Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 He gave himself up. Play was dead right then. 1 Quote
Andrew Son Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 He was aware. He would have just went down. Quote
HurlyBurly51 Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Player can give him self up. Can't just lay there forever while the clock runs. Quote
frostbitmic Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 Wallace got him by the ankle and that tripped him up. They should've grabbed him and prevented him from going down, all while moving forward so the refs can't whistle the play dead. Quote
st pete gogolak Posted January 24, 2022 Author Posted January 24, 2022 I understand concept of giving himself up but is that instantaneous? When does the ref blow the whistle? Quote

As soon as the guy goes down and the ref recognizes his intent. Could be instantaneous, especially if they inform him beforehand. Quote
MJS Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 The refs can blow it dead if he gives himself up, which he did. 22 minutes ago, st pete gogolak said: I understand concept of giving himself up but is that instantaneous? When does the ref blow the whistle? Doesn't even matter because they could review it and determine that he gave himself up with 3 seconds left to go, and they would put that time back on the clock. Ralonzo Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 (edited) You can call timeout before the play is over, too, if you possess the ball. If the Bills just stand there he can signal the T and stop the clock. Edited January 24, 2022 by Ralonzo Quote
0017 Posted January 24, 2022 Posted January 24, 2022 They should have carried him slowly forward till time ran out! Damn it! Quote

fasteddie Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) It would have been better if they'd hit him at the LOS instead of a free run downfield. Poor coaching. Edited January 25, 2022 by fasteddie 1 Quote
