Albany,n.y. Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Here's the story: https://www.sbnation.com/2022/1/21/22894848/josh-mccown-texans-coach-qb Steve Tasker went nuts on OBL when they discussed this to open the show. 1 1 9 Quote
BruceVilanch Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Wow, Texans are a world class dumpster fire 4 2 3 Quote
Saxum Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 They should just sign coaching staff for one year. 2 Quote
Warcodered Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Wonder if they'll realize it's McCown not McClown before getting disappointed with his lack of balloon animal making experience. 1 Quote
Albany,n.y. Posted January 21, 2022 Author Posted January 21, 2022 McCown did such a great job mentoring Sam Darnold with the Jets, that's all he had to bring up in his interview to get the Texans attention. 🙃 2 Quote

Billzgobowlin Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I have no problem with this if there is reasoning to it. Best man doesn't always have to be a coordinator Quote
jkeerie Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 The main criteria the Texans are using for their coaching search is the answer to the question, "Will you take the job?" If the candidate answers "Yes" he's hired. No viable candidate would ever consider that job. The Texans made it even less attractive by firing Culley after one season. 2 2 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I want to see this happened because I actually like McCown. Seems like a really good dude. But an equal parts of me wants to see it happen just because I like to watch the world burn. 4 Quote
dje85 Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 May as well just choose the guy you like personally with no coaching experience at all. I mean, not like any competent hire could turn that dumpster fire around any time soon for at least another couple years. Little to no talent on that team and what little they do have is still likely out the door this off season. About as full rebuild starting this off season as is possible. Quote
Warcodered Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I mean it's not that I don't think he couldn't become a coach, I just think it's a leap to go from assistant high school coach to Head Coach in the NFL. 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I remember when he was supposedly going to be our QB about 10 or so years ago. 1 Quote

Best man doesn't always have to be a coordinator McCown is pretty respected league wide. But the issue is he has never coached at any level. They think he can suddenly walk in and be a HC and build a competent staff? Love McCown, but this is just a huge stretch Quote
JohnBonhamRocks Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Does he have a pulse? OK… can you move his hand to make a signature? Great, he’s hired. 1 Quote
Jdragon2 Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I read that as Josh McDaniels because my brain couldn't process how ridiculous it is that it is McCown instead. 2 1 2 1 Quote

DrDawkinstein Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 He was a finalist for their HC job last year too, right? 1 Quote
FilthyBeast Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 This is strange, I wonder if the Texans overplayed their hand and moved on from Culley because they thought for sure Flores would want to be there but then possibly declined? (specially because he knows Watson is never playing there again). 1 Quote
