Yes he does.  He took Alex Leatherwood in the first round.  Just because you played at Bama does not mean you will be a great or even good pro.  Leatherwood is worse then any Guard Buffalo has on their roster.

Did he make that pick or did Gruden?

Interestingly the way they worked it was Gruden owned rounds 1-2 and Maycock handled round 3 onward.

Weird situation.

If that is in fact the case, check out the 2019 draft and it's pretty clear that Mayock did alright: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/rai/draft.htm.

In 2019, the Raiders took Clelin Ferrell, Josh Jacobs, Jonathan Abraham, and Trayvon Mullen in rounds 1-2. Jacobs is pretty good but not worth that pick, and the rest have been disappointments. However, Crosby (round 4) is phenomenal and Hunter Renfro (round 6) is very good value for that slot.

I just read a football take that expressed that this firing is no shock in as much as Gruden was the real GM of that team anyway........ and made Mayocks job

loss a fait accompli eventually..... *shrugs* maybe so.

That was also the conclusion of the SiriusXM radio folks I heard discussing it.

Mock drafts you can do by yourself.  The network probably turned Mayock loose - that was "his" thing they were paying him to do.

Being a GM and drafting, you have outside influences - the owner, the coach, team brass, the scouts, player agents, the NFL, highly paid hallwalking team "consultants" for starters. You have a lot of people in your face, feeding you information, some of it right, some of it wrong, all of it biased.

I think it's very difficult to "be your own man/woman" as a GM.
