VABills Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I just saw is image on the screen during the national anthom. Does anyone know if the NFL or at least the Cards are wearing his number somewhere on the uniform? What about other tributes to someone who gave so much, and didn't have to? May God have blessings on your soul and on your family, Mr. Tillman. It was an honor to have watched you play a game and for you to protect us from those that are evil in this world.
Corp000085 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 i didn't see the anthem as i was watching espn. i suspect there'll be a moment of silence, maybe lead by bush or whatever, on sunday. looking at the tv now, i don't see any patches.

Albany,n.y. Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I hope the fact that Tillman was an atheist does not diminish anyone's opinion of him. Here's something I cut & pasted from another message board since the press has mostly stayed away from that part of the story, anyone interested in doing a search can find a lot more: PAT TILLMAN WAS AN ATHEIST, so attested by his brother Rich Tillman. The younger Tillman, according to the San Francisco Chronicle 4 May 2004, asked mourners to "hold their spiritual bromides... Pat isn't with God. He's f***ing dead. He wasn't religious. But thank you for your thoughts." I might criticise Rich’s expletives but the point was made and he was angry at the loss of his brother in a war against terror and religious extremists. He and Pat Tillman show that there are Atheists in Fox Holes even in hyper religious America.
Amstel Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 The Cards will wear a number 40 decal all season on their helmets. Week 1 everyone in the league will wear the decal on their helmet. THat's my understanding

No, it doesn't diminish my opinion of him, but I often wonder why atheists bother to do anything. If there's no point to the current life we live, why fight for anything? Why care about your country or about human injustices across the world if we all sooner or later are going to end up in the ground with maggots up our noses? Anyway, Tillman was an unselfish man and for that he deserves the utmost respect. Pat Tillman Stadium? Why not? He's about the only positive thing to have been associated with that franchise in over 50 years.
Pete Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I dont give a fug if he was an atheist. His actions and how he lived his life are why he is my hero. What do you have against religion? Over and over again you post antireligious posts. What does religion have to do with Pat Tillman? BTW the 10 commandments are how you should live your life regardless if you beleive in God or not. Many atheists are amoral but obviously Pat was not. He had superior morals and superior grasp of what is important in life.
KOKBILLS Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 He and Pat Tillman show that there are Atheists in Fox Holes even in hyper religious America. 24605[/snapback] Wow..."Hyper Religious.." I don't know what that means, but even though the main stream America (or at least the America you see on TV) may be a bit too Religious for some, I think in actuality Religion in daily practice is quite scarce in this Country... I mean is Porn not the #1 industry in America (or something like that)? Maybe that's a question for LA. Maybe hyper sensitive Religious, or hyper reactive Religious, I don't know... Just commentary, no offense meant whatsoever... B)

My point was just what you have said-you don't need a belief in a specific God to have high morals. I don't have anything against religion as long as the religious keep their beliefs to themselves and don't claim any moral superiority to those who don't believe exactly what they do. Unfortunately some of the most faithful think that unless you follow what they believe in you're damned. Many "religious" people are amoral too.

MattyT Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Mike Ricci will be wearing #40 for the Phoenix Coyotes this season in memory of Pat Tillman. That is...if there is NHL hockey this season.
