I’ve had my own health issues the last year. I think the most important thing most of us will ever do is complete the carbon cycle. The only way for the world to keeping living is if we keep dying. (I am not dying but a global pandemic and a year of health issues will get you thinking about stuff) That sounds heavy and depressing, but I actually find it remarkably powerful and uplifting. 1 1 Quote
FireChans Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Weird timing with the documentary on Christmas Day. RIP 2 1 Quote
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Was kind of weird, I'd been seeing some of those commercials the last couple of weeks on Fox for the Christmas Day All Madden special. The first one or two times I saw it, my first thought was, did Madden just die as it looked like one of these tributes they do right after someone dies in sports. At least he made it through the last show on Christmas this year. Quote
Big Blitz Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 There might not be a greater ambassador to his league and sport in history. 1 Quote

RIP He was in declining health and Fox sports was working hard to get that aired as quickly as possible. Not saying anyone knew it was this imminent, but they wanted it completed. 78thealltimegreat Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 There will never be another one like him…Kids only know him from the video games but he really was one of the greatest coaches in the history of football 1 Quote
Patrick Duffy Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Hate to hear it...saw him other day talking with someone about that documentary and seemed happy and smiling. Can't talk history of NFL without Madden in it a big part forsure. Quote
RiotAct Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Oh man. Him and Pat Summerall calling games on FOX is one of my fondest childhood sports memories 4 3 2 Quote
Captain Hindsight Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 So sad to hear. I came to love watching football by listening to him call a game. He loved himself some Brett Favre And he made it so fun He will be missed 😢 1 Quote
Patrick Duffy Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Each game next Sunday will probably have some kind of ceremony for him. 1 Quote
Clyde Smith Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Boom! The overexplaining the plays. One of the greatest football minds of the game. I miss Madden and Summerall commentating and the introduction of the turducken. RIP to one of the greats! 1 Quote

I'm an out of town Bills fan and the Raiders have been my second team since - well, check the screen name. Favorite line from Madden as a broadcaster: "That pass looked like the last shot out of a roman candle". RIP to a legend. 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 He was a part of several million childhoods and into adulthood. RIP. Quote
QCity Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Madden always added entertainment to the broadcast without getting in the way of the game. "Often imitated, but never duplicated." Quote
MiltonWaddams Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Though I listened to him call games hundreds of times and watched A Football Life on him, the All Madden show on XMas day got to me. As those we looked up to in our youth age, it is difficult to watch. But, I saw a man who had lived a full life, one which was respected by most all he knew and met. His sons spoke so highly of him. We should all be so lucky. RIP John. Share a cheers with Pat for us all. 1 Quote
WhoTom Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Summerall and Madden were the best broadcasting duo, until Michaels and Madden. RIP, Sir. Quote
