Buffalo716
Daboll finally has been starting to craft up better plays inside the red zone Utilizing block and release routes to not only give Josh more time but give receivers a free release Gabe Davis scored on one a few weeks ago ... Kunerow was wide open on his block and release route that he dropped Knox has been utilized in this more recently .. THIS is what this passing offense has been missing Scheming players out of the backfield after blocking is one of the easiest ways to free up a player Dawson Knox might have had his best blocking game as a pro against the Patriots.. they left him one-on-one on Josh's roll outs a bunch... And with his size and athleticism just manhandled his opponent These are the types of drawn up plays that we need to continue to execute moving forward 8
BuffaloBill
Dabol seemed to get a little stale with his plays and calls. He needed to make some changes.
maddenboy
Good eye. So, what's the counter that we should be expecting as defenses watch film? Double-team rushes on Knox's side, then one of the rushers peels back to defend him? Or just putting him on the ground on the way to the qb? (there was a play like this last nite Saints v Fish. Kamara looked like he did this but he stumbled coming off his possibly fake block, and when the ball arrived he was off balance and could not adjust). HoofHearted
I’m with you. They’ve been utilizing the RPO a lot more down in the RedZone lately as well. There’s been a noticeable attempt to marry their run and pass game more off of each other as well. You saw that a lot this last game with all of the play action off the outside zone blocking up front (the rollouts with Knox blocking for him). Been seeing this for a couple weeks now. The cool thing is the concepts, for the most part, have stayed the same - the window dressing has just changed.
Buffalo Boy
Knox actually could have been open on the overthrow to Kumerow on the Two Point conversion. He got right through the line, was open and just stopped. If he had moved in the same direction as Kumerow and thrown a hand up it was an easy conversion. If you could pancake the block and releaser that would obviously put a halt to it You could also bracket the TE to make life hell for him ... Chip and bracket could nullify a TE block and release Then you are leaving other WRs with room in the intermediate areas If Josh continues to make correct decisions this wrinkle will only make us harder to defend
TFBillsfan
Agree. Felt like Daboll finally realized that in the red zone go with your strength! Josh rolling out or RPO, it puts so much pressure on the D. Defenses have to account for a handoff, or bring pressure on Josh and hope to contain him, or come up to stop him from running which ultimately frees up someone in the passing game. Still PO’d with his redzone playcalling against TN and the first game against NE.

A lot of the delayed release stuff we’ve been taking advantage of because we knew we were going to be getting man looks from New England. Don’t expect to see a lot of it against heavy zone teams. Imagine running knox and along with another competent TE? It would confuse the opponents D, create mismatches and confusion. When you have a high powered passing attack that is the focus of every opposing DC having the ability to switch it up and run some 2TE sets with 2 good TE’s is the ultimate mind**** imo. It would improve our run game and add new wrinkles to the pass game. Using more block and release routes is an excellent addition.
