I’m a big history buff, in particular for both world wars, and some years ago came across this true story about a miraculous episode of humanity that happened in the middle of the killing fields that was 1914 Europe on the Western Front…the miracle of Christmas touched soldiers on all sides for a brief moment in the midst of despair…may you all have a blessed and Merry Christmas today, and all the best for the coming year!

The WWI truce mentioned above is pretty well documented.

There were similar stories that arose out of what Americans call "The Battle of the Bulge" or what the Germans (who started it) call "Operation Wacht am Rhein," or the Ardennes counter-offensive of December 1944.

It's interesting to note that militaries all around the world don't like their men talking with the enemy, as the next thing you know, they'll all be getting along and not seeing any point--whatsoever--to the war they're fighting.

It's sad.

To your point specifically about Christmas during The Battle of the Bulge, I came across this article concerning the experiences of a then-12 yr old boy and his mother who sheltered soldiers from both sides on Christmas Eve in a remarkable moment:
