Long snappers actually double the career length of the average Nfl player. I'm going to convince my kid long snapping is cool. Forget QB. I know fathers who have done that And with the physical and mental sides of the game.. you have a lot better chances of putting out a division one Long snapper than a division one quarterback ... It's not even close But it's going to be hard to convince them it's cool, cus it's really not lol Edited December 20, 2021 by Buffalo716

He was replaced the next year by position player Mack Yoho, who wasn't much better. Daryl Lamonica, the backup QB was the punter in 1963. We upgraded to Gogolak and Maguire in 1964. That reminded me that Qb Danny White used to be the Cowboys punter in the 70's-80's.
without a drought
Most hgh school kickers were usually pretty bad, as a soccer goalie, I could punt and kick better than anyone on the football team. They just didn't care to improve at the positions, they would just use the qb or best athlete and live with the results. The funny part is they had players on the roster who never played. BigAl2526
I'm sure after seeing what happened to Carolina, McDermott is probably devoting a little time this week determining if he actually has someone on the roster who could serve as an emergency placekicker. Is it Hyde? Maybe.

Their punter was an aussie rules guy so he had no PK experience. Just a bad situation Surprised they didn’t just have the punter drop kick if needed, wasn’t a real issue yesterday, they needed TDs. What that team needs is a QB, Cam is done.
krf139
I’m confused as to why the punter can’t do it. I understand it’s a different animal but you’d think they’d be at least semi passable in an emergency

I understand it’s a different animal but you’d think they’d be at least semi passable in an emergency Some punter (i.e. Bojo) had issue just getting laces lined up. It is a specialist position and a lot easier to kick off since you can use tee if necessary. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+kick+field+goals&rlz=1C1GCEB_enUS912US912&oq=how+to+kick+field+goals&aqs=chrome..69i57.5286j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=_shPBYcu3FYfCytMPgs-DsAE18 https://www.sbnation.com/a/nfl-preview-2019/kickers Quote For players who hang out on the periphery of the box score, kickers and punters have a major role in how a game unfolds. Although it’s easy to see the output of their work, it’s not always clear what goes into these kicks. The 10,000 hours of technique that constitutes every special teams play carries through film study and into the weight room. These kicks are the result of thousands of power cleans and sprints, knowing the right spot and timing for every play, and understanding how to react when something unexpected happens. Quote “You want to hit the center of the [metatarsal] bone that runs roughly from the ankle to the big toe,” Washington kicker Dustin Hopkins told me. “You want to hit that line atop your foot every time. The goal is that even a mishit will be a make. Obviously you want to hit your ‘A’ ball every time, but in the pros you need your ‘B’ and ‘C+’ ball to be a make, too.” I held kicks on summer for practicing kicker and you need to not think about him kicking your hand or you will move enough to ruin kick. I got kicked once (he said it was his fault not mine) and that was the last kick I held. I went back to therapy table for kicking my fingers messed up job I was being paid to little for.

What happens if they need to kick a field goal? 19 hours ago, 1ManRaid said: How is having a kicker be a crappy long snapper on the off chance you have a kicker injury any better than just going for it on 4th down and going for 2? I'd much rather have no kicker for (part of) 1 game than a subpar LS every game. While that struggling kicker-turned-LS is practicing snaps, he's not practicing kicks, and will be an even worse backup kicker for it. In your proposed scenario, you now have a subpar backup LS snapping to a subpar backup kicker. Or if the kicker gets injured now the long snapper is snapping to himself

Charles Romes
You would think that every punter ought to be able to at least kick an extra point and be 50 percent from inside 35. You are kicking footballs every day…on a football field…The goal posts are right there.

f0neguy
Bass was miked up for the preseason game. When he was talking to Kincaid he mentioned that he was the kicker when he was in High School and he hit a 40 yarder. Timing might be an issue but in an emergency…?
