They're going to have to postpone the Browns/Raiders game. The NFL said before the season that if a mostly vaccinated team had a covid outbreak they would do their best to make accommodations for that team. Letting that game go on as planned would be a joke.

Massive game too.  Raiders (6-7) are in a must win situation and the Browns are right in the mix at 7-6.

CBS put together a COVid-19 tracker per team. Contrary to how the fans feel, the Bills so far are in ok shape comparatively

Here is the one I use:

Has the NFL tried the usual method of dealing with players?  Bribe them.

If a team is fully vaccinated and asymptomatic and this occurs, will they reschedule? Seems like they should.

Agree.

They said if teams didn't do what they should (vaccinate, follow protocols) they would penalize teams and not reschedule.

But, these are teams which have done nothing wrong and key players/coaches who are vaccinated and even boosted.

This is what I meant when I said upthread "batten down the hatches for Covid"

I've seen it suggested "Oh well, drop the protocols, who cares?"  Keep in mind the players are young and fit but even there, some are apparently fine (Brown, Boettger) and others struggling (Dawkins, Lotulelei).  Then there are the coaches, who mostly are....Not young and fit.

For right now, the NFLPA went into the season with the position that they care about preventing Covid and its spread among players, and the coaches and staff signed on to the season with the idea the NFL cared about preventing Covid.

That isn't going to be changed mid-season, and frankly, to change the rules mid-season would be horribly unfair to guys like Ron Rivera (immunocompromised, Cancer) and Bruce Arians (3 time cancer survivor).

Yes, they should change the protocols if they indeed care about spread, and it’s a simple change.

Everyone, regardless of vax status, takes a rapid antigen test everyday in addition to a PCR test weekly.

The easiest change (because the test and its accuracy are already vetted and accepted by the NFL and NFLPA) would be to just re-implement daily testing as done last season.  By the time they get done discussing the antigen test and its sensitivity and selectivity and choosing a vendor and assuring supply, the season would be done.

I remember commentators saying the Bills playing on the road for Thanksgiving might be a blessing in disguise because that will keep the players from attending family gatherings where close contact could result in infections.  Around 75% of cases are among people sharing households.  Delaying games more than a couple days at this point in the season is going to be difficult as all bye weeks have been taken and there's no slack in the schedule to push out anything to a week 19.

Thanks for confirming for me my disdain for that boy. What a moron. And people wanted him here...

You can't extend the season by a week now, can you? That pushes back the Super Bowl a week as well I'd assume... There not going to do that. Gotta play with the hand you're dealt Brownies. Lucks a b word sometimes.

I don't think they can extend the season a week, but they could try moving the game to Monday or Tues....would give most of these guys a chance to be symptom free, test negative, and return

The NFL is planning “significant changes” to its COVID-19 protocols amid the worst three-day stretch for the league during the pandemic, a person familiar with the plans told The Associated Press on Wednesday night.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because details haven’t been finalized, said the league and the NFL Players Association are discussing three main areas: testing protocols; return to play guidelines to allow asymptomatic players who’ve tested positive to return sooner; and encouraging booster shots.

Los Angeles announced on Wednesday that outside linebacker Justin Hollins, tight end Johnny Mundt, and tight end Jared Pinkney have all been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

That brings the Rams’ total to 16 players between the 53-man roster and practice squad, including cornerback Jalen Ramsey and receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

36 players test positive on Monday, including a WFT staff member with Omicron

Thirty-six NFL Players – 25 on active rosters and 11 on practice squads – were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday as a result of positive tests.

It is the largest number of additions to the list since its creation in 2020, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.

Following the rash of positive tests, the NFL is mandating that all Tier 1 and 2 personnel "who have previously been vaccinated and are eligible under [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] guidelines, must receive a booster shot" by Dec. 27, as announced in a memo obtained by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Tier 1 personnel consist of players, coaches, physicians, trainers and necessary personnel who need direct access to players. However, the mandate does not apply to players as all requirements for players must be negotiated with the NFL Players Association. Tier 2 is comprised of general mangers, football operations employees, other assistant coaches, etc.

NFL announces protocol changes

Effective immediately, all players coaches and staff will be required to wear face coverings regardless of vaccination status, and all team meetings must be conducted either outdoors or remotely.

Players will be forbidden from dining together in groups. Meals will be "grab-and-go" and players must be seated 10 feet apart from each other.

No outside visitors will be permitted during team travel.

The league said it would "strongly encourage" players getting booster shots, but did not issue a mandate.

"The changes we are making today aim to address the increase in cases and the advent of the Omicron variant," the NFL statement said.

The league meanwhile said it was altering return-to-play protocols for vaccinated players who test positive for Covid-19 but are asymptomatic.

Under current rules, a vaccinated player testing positive must produce two negative tests 24 hours apart before being able to return. The new protocol allows for a speedier return to play for vaccinated players who test negative.

"All of these changes are grounded in our data and science-backed approach, with safety our number-one goal for the entire NFL community," the NFL statement said.

Still resistant to testing players every day as the NFLPA would like them to do.
