Bills opponents called for defensive holding only twice all year on more than 500 dropbacks. How is this even possible?

We run play action a ton as well, and before you say something about us not running the ball well, it has already been shown via numerous studies and analytics that running the ball well is of no consequence to whether play action is effective or not...there is simply no way in the world that teams are holding their receivers more than the Bills receivers...and our TE is probably having as good or better a year then either of theirs is.

It was just a guess.  Anyway, we're middle of the pack in penalties: https://www.nflpenalties.com/

We are 4th highest in the NFL in terms of penalties per play, not middle of the pack...but surprisingly also the 10th highest "beneficiaries" of penalties on the opponents as well...although the net is still slightly negative...and they must be the crappy variety considering our net is 9th worst at -3.829 yards

Surprisingly Tampa Bay is the lowest in terms of Beneficiary rate, meaning the fewest penalties have been called against their opponents...except when they play the Bills apparently.  Bills are also in the top 7 for declined penalties and offsetting penalties.

This doesn't even make sense...how the hell can the Bills be called multiple times a game it seems, but opponents never do, unless it's Xavien Howard apparently since he has gotten called for defensive holding  once each game against the Dolphins and is the only player to have gotten called for it against us?  Seems like multiple times a game Bills WRs are getting manhandled with no calls...is this a concerted effort by the NFL officials??

Our receivers are more quick in space then fast,  they create separation with quick moves.  DB'S use their hands to defend against this,  this was highlighted in the KC AFC title game and Sean has never called it out with reporters. Sean should have brought attention to it after the game Sunday with plenty of national media attending the game.  Sean may think it was not worth the fine but he fails to realize if this is allowed to continue it will hold back the strenght of this team which is scoring points.

Starting to think there is some form of confirmation bias happening...refs are aware the Bills are one of the most penalized teams, so they may unknowingly call a penalty on the Bills that is borderline far more often than against other teams that don't have this reputation.

Yeah, that's exactly my point!  These are the types of receivers that get held due to them being able to change direction and leave people flat footed or moving the wrong way.

At -4 yds a game net, its tough to make a case that the League is out to get us.  We're averaging 6.8 per game, which looks like every other year's average for us: https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/penalties-per-game

Bills are one of only 3 teams (Cle, NE) without a single offensive pass interference penalty this year.

Not sure what that means, but interesting.

We don't run pick plays that's all that means.

The one that could have been called was I think Knox vs. Chiefs

Remember the guy on the X-Files who said: "The Buffalo Bills will never win a SuperBowl while I'm still alive".

That dude must still be alive...

Must be true since Tretiak was pretty slow on his blocker side that night in the Olympics.

I feel like they are selling the flag too much.  Go through the defender and try and make the play.  Do that there is less doubt.  Its in Diggs head a bit.  Just go make the play.  The penalty is more blatant in real time vs throwing your arms up and flopping.

A little misleading since declined and offsetting are not included in that number. Jumps to 8.38 if those are included.  Only Dallas, LV and Chargers average more...and Dallas is far and away the team that benefits the most from opponent flags as well so they mostly offset.

And you have to do that for everyone else too then.  Its only misleading if you remove it from its original context....

I did in the proper context...they are 4th highest with those included for all teams.

For reference, here are the Bills stats vs. teams many consider to be favorites for the NFL (WWE).

Buffalo Pass Attempts: 502
Defensive Holding: 2
Def. Pass Interference: 9

KC Pass Attempts: 519

Def. Holding: 15
Def. Pass Interference: 2

NE Pass Attempts: 394
Def. Holding: 3
Def. Pass Interference: 12

By percentage:

Beews - 2%

Chefs - 3% (looks small, but that means that the Chefs get a penalty 50% more than the Bills)

Cheats - 4% (33% more than the Chefs, 100% more than the Bills)

Yes Virginia, the NFL is fixed.

When officials are engaged into point shaving, coupled with skimming, and openly operating to make calls they feel like making as has been quoted in past articles.  It defines things pretty well and it's all left to their own interpretations as the league refuses to address it.  For me it honestly doesn't matter when they start saying this guy's an FBI Agent, or an IRS Agent, a prosecutor, and or a Judge.  They've been some of the most crooked folks if you look at Winterhill, mob cases, and book fixers.  Just because the NFL says they impose "strict character codes" doesn't mean that they actively enforce anything at all.  I look at the former Panthers owner being forced out for sexual harassment

You turn around and Bob Kraft is in a Tong and Traid operated spa getting serviced.  The league does literally nothing for any character code and fans step up.  It's frustrating to me watching as sex workers talked about legality, then went into how it was entrapment, and would tell me they couldn't discuss any Tong or Trraid groups bankrolling their Twitter interests and or supplying third party lobbyists to pus for legalization.  I'm guessing Bob's connections to getting his girls tailored for a specific age range most likely comes out of Boston's China Town.  League will never really act for any other team except the ones which will be "protected" by it's own interests.  Now, just playing the waiting game because if Roger Goodell steps down he's going to jail.

Some other weird things this year:

  1. Pats run RB on Bills on all but 3 plays on a MON, Bills don't hand off to a RB on SUN in 1st half.
  2. Bills give up a +40 yd rushing TD for the 4th time this year vs BUCS.
  3. And double down by giving up a 58 Yd Passing TD in OT in same game.
  4. Bills chose to go for it vs TN inside 5 in last minute - afraid of Tannehill in OT?
  5. Bills then chose to kick FG and go to OT vs the GOAT in Tampa in similar situation?
