Built in 1897 as the Great Northern Elevator. Often forgotten as being a grain elevator, since it doesn't display the later concrete silo design. 9 minutes ago, Wacka said: This is video of Hoaks on Route 5 in Hamburg yesterday. Hoak's always seemed the place to send remote crews for news broadcasts when the Lake Erie seiche was running easterly. 😁 Quote

Process Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Good, time to start knocking down some of these old, ugly buildings around the city. 1 Quote

Except those "old ugly" silos are iconic and becoming a hip playground, like Buffalo Riverworks. But you're right about some of them. Might not be worth saving. 1 Quote

Who says that wind occurs during a game? The wind that knocked that chunk out of the silo would not have occurred during a game, even if we had an open air stadium right where it SHOULD BE...near the hockey arena. Looking through this thread, it's utterly hilarious how poorly situated Buffalo, NY is, on the map. It's freaking lightning rod for horrific weather, and none of it is particularly difficult to understand. And it ain't gonna change, either. 1 Quote

BFLo was placed there for one purpose only. 😉 Even the Natives hunkered down other places away. Quote

We cling to the idea of an open-air football stadium when metro Buffalo is one of the worst spots you can be for disruptive weather. Quote
MarkyMannn Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Un-used the last 40 years, 124 years old. I believe protected by landmark status. Need to wonder about overall structural integrity. Take it down 1 Quote
frostbitmic Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 That's where mother nature wants the new stadium built, she's even helping with the demolition of the current building on the parcel. 1 Quote

Those silos are what make Buffalo unique. We lost a lot of very beautiful, culturally relevant buildings in the rush of urban renewal. If they can be preserved they should be. 1 Quote

The grain elevator was invented in BFLo... Maybe make a historical thing out of it... ?? 8 minutes ago, PromoTheRobot said: Those silos are what make Buffalo unique. They are of architectural significance by varying design and style. National landmarks. Quote
