Mark my words: this team will NEVER win a superbowl with McDermott as the coach.

You can keep him and be a playoff team, or you can try to find the guy that has the coaching mind to truly match up against the top coaches you face and must defeat to get the trophy.

I know what I would do. Unfortunately, I think management will stay staus quo.

Im over the mcdermott era too.

He just hasn't had it from the get-go this season. Its very strange.

He cant make adjustments. Its embarrassing.

Why are you going to defer and go 3 and out at the start of the half? Hes been deferring all season and this is what has happened more times than not.

Secondly, the belichick wasnt playing chess, if he was, then it was the equivalent of making a pon move 1 space down the board. He didnt use queen, bishop, rooks, or horse.

He literally just ran the ball. He did this before in 2008 when Matt Cassel threw the ball a whopping 8x. It was the same script.

Yet McDermott couldnt prepare for it on a long week. I cant even get into his game management skills.

Its very sad, and perplexing.

He needs to go.

Well since your an arm chair GM, maybe you’d like to explain who you replace him with???

And what’s the guarantee that the coach you pick will be just as or more successful than McD? Who do you bring in. Franchise  Coaches don’t grow on trees

I think McDermott is a good coach, but not a great coach.  He is too conservative most of the time, has terrible clock management skills, and constantly gets outcoached in the biggest moments and games.  Two of those things can be fixed, but for whatever reason, they keep showing up every season.  He needs to just say screw it and change the way he thinks in managing games, but he won't.  He also has to be willing to make changes in-game to counter what other teams are doing, especially when opponents keep doing the same things over and over again.  Tonight was the perfect example where the Pats* constantly had 6 offensive lineman in and not once did he bring in an extra defensive lineman to counter up front.  He played 2 or 3 LBs all the time and they got run over up front.  His lack of adjustments is pathetic and it is only going to get worse next week against Tampa.

YOU ARE NOT FIRING A COACH THE YEAR AFTER HE GOES 13-3 AND TAKES THE TEAM TO THE AFC CHAMPIONSHIP

How many times do we need to say this

Do you wanna be safe and never reach the mountaintop, or do you look for the coach that has that ability to go blow for blow with the best?

I know they won't

Doesn't mean it will end up being a good decision

Since when is having an opinion such a problem?

Because you don't do a stupid kneejerk thing like firing McD after the best season we've had since the Clinton administration and who had to turn around 17 years of failure.

You're asking to get rid of our most successful coach for a lottery ticket hoping to God that he's marginally better.

That I dont know. But this team has hit a rut this year. The defense sucked last year too if you dont remember. They also werent good the year they lost in the WC at Houston. Its the been a theme that McDermott doesnt know or want to stop the run. He cant make adjustments either. Its been this way for a couple years now, and his worts are coming to surface since teams have learned how to stop the spread offense.

Even that moron Urban Meyer was able to beat McD with his lousy roster.

Again what Coach is out there that’s a better option???? All your looking at is Coordinators who are looking for a shot at being a HC. Your going to risk taking a shot on a Coordinator who won’t pan out??

I don't necessarily think McDermott should be fired after this loss tonight.

But the OP suggested something that I find interesting.

Has McDermott reached (more or less) his coaching ceiling?

I feel he may have.  And it's a high ceiling, but it's not high enough.

McD seems better at coaching lesser talent (after getting blown out on occasion) than coaching good/great talent. This team is more competitive than the Whaley-fed teams, but record-wise, they’re only marginally better despite having superior talent. They made the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor shouldn’t you win a lot with Josh Allen!? How good of a team does Beane have to field to get McD etc to get them to play like those scrubs in years 1-2? I don’t know. I’m not advocating for firing him today. But I do think that this could be his ceiling and that it’s not going to be good enough like you said.

Our defense sucked last year due to opt outs due to covid. Also he got us to an AFC championship!!!! Tell me who the last coach was to do that? What coach not named Marv Levy or Wade Philips that’s made us relevant again?

This is why it’s hard to talk to people on this board. They don’t want to listen and they think they have all the answers and they can fix it.

There is nothing wrong with being loyal to your team. That is perfectly fun and fine. It is what makes being a fan so exciting or frustrating. I am first a fan, but some fans are blind by loyalty.

With that said, completely laughing off the logic that this coaching staff, the lack of execution and adjustments, and the inability to take advantage and win key games are facts. Fair or unfair, these facts confirm that the McDermott Era has reached its ceiling.

Yes…this ceiling is better than what we experienced the previous 20 years. Just recognize that borderline playoff teams or 1st round exits is the future until ownership, the GM, coaching staff, and inability to adjust will be what keeps this team in the above average but not great/excellent category at one of the most opportune times the Bills will have to contend.

Don’t shoot a fairly accurate message. And, if you want to do so, a well-thought response, rebuttal, or a different lens with rationale is appreciated.

Allen and Diggs got us to the championship game, with role players stepping up on occasion (love you Taron Johnson <3) Not McDermott. Thats why Im keeping Beane around. He is willing to make big moves aka Diggs.

I agree about the team hitting a rut this year.  We came out flat opening week against Pittsburgh and have not had great mojo most of the season.  I think the team is really handicapped w how bad the O line is.  For a team that had Super Bowl aspirations.  It unheard of to have such a below avg line.  And the RB's are not much better.  I don't think McDermott goes.  A lot of this has to fall on Beane.  But McDermott needs to not be so predictable. When you are not an overly physical offense, some gimmick plays need to be used to keep teams off balance.  Pretty much the same offense week in and week out.  We beat the Colts in the playoff game last year because of Josh Allen's super human performance capped off by the great 97 yard drive at the end of the 1st half.  We did not move the ball well against Baltimore or KC..  The offense has gotten stale.  Needs to reboot.  It will be interesting to see if McDermott can do that.  McDermott is a good nuts and bolts coach.  But is he good enuf to get us at least back to the level of last season and beyond that?   I think the jury is still out on that.

There was absolutely no reason that the Bills should have lost this game! For this reason, the Pegula’s need to clean out some of the coaching leadership.

The odds of screwing up so many times in a row in a game is probably a million to one. That comes down to poor coaching and players not executing. When players screw up and coaches can not adjust, then this means that McDermott’s coaching ceiling has already been reached. He and his staff are average despite the team’s history

Great Coach gets 10-14 points in the situation below.  Good coach gets 6 to 7 points. Replaceable coach gets 0-3 points.

2x’s in the last 6 minutes the Patriots gift wrapped two very doable red zone touchdown opportunities. And, Allen gets sacked, an idiot TE false start, a missed field goal, and passing the ball when running could have led to more manageable play calling rather than 3rd and long and 4th and 14 situations.

No adjustments…means no Confidence!

The team lost at home with the best fans, better receivers, and quarterback, unbelievable opportunities to win, and the defense knowing in advance that 95% of the team’s plays would be runs. Mac Jones may have set a record in the last 40 years with 19 pass yards! In other words, our defensive line knew what was coming and the Hoodie decided to be completely one dimensional knowing the Bills could do nothing about it!!!

Winning Culture

Yes, there was wind and stats were not going to be as big tonight. The Bills had every reason to win and own the division. It was blanking Monday Night Football. The team had this game circled all season. No amount of clapping, rah rah, or “process” makes up for fumbling the game away.

Bad coaching, players aren’t executing, and we can’t build our offense or defense with underwhelming line play, time management issues, and not getting the ball from a 30 million dollar QB not getting the ball to Diggs or a line not capable of digging in and getting 10 yards on the ground with some old-fashion tough running.

Ceiling has been reached..new voices

A weaker AFC, Derrick Henry going down, the Chiefs inconsistencies and Ravens, and the inability to beat playoff caliber teams, execute at key times, and the lack of consistency on the lines means this is McDermott’s ceiling.

Time for Bills to make big changes!

I think we’re playing at our floor honestly…you could potentially win me over by the end of the season though lol

So strange too that there’s a lot of continuity along the offensive line and they all seem to have regressed horribly. Pats have a great front 7 so I don’t think this game was the best example of the oline laying an egg but that’s definitely a trend throughout the season.

Nah. You cannot fire the head coach after two successful seasons.

For one, I have zero faith that Pegulas will capture lightning in a bottle again.

For another, what message does that send to the players?

Fire Daboll for sure, hell fire Frazier too. But keep McD and Beane for at least another season or two MINIMUM.

This team has a top 3 QB and is not going to make the playoffs. McDermott should be fired. Beane did nothing at the trade deadline to help this flawed team.

They won’t be fired but both should go.
