I doubt the players are thinking above average about this game. Listen to the recent quote from Stefon Diggs, where he basically says "What? Rivalry with New England? I've only been here 2 years, I don't know anything about that!" LMFAO If the players don't know the importance of this game, they really don't belong in the NFL. The 2 games with NE will decide the division. It has nothing to do w/ "rivalry" - which doesn't exist right now. It's just about the division. Nothing Diggs said indicates the level of intensity w/ which he or anyone is approaching this game. Quote
chaccof Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 As someone else said already - the defense has done fine against the really poor teams (including JAX) but, and this is a big but - against winning teams not so much. I'm to the point now that even if the team limps into the playoffs I don't think they can get past the first round so not that excited. Can't imagine they'll beat NE twice or Tampa Bay. And they should win the other three but suspect they'll have a brain fart in one of those games. Next year though I bet they come into the season with a chip on their shoulder, stay focused, don't read their press and get down to business. This team reminds me so much of the '89 Bills. And we all know what happened in '90..... Quote

The Bills defense is really good, or that the media is playing up that they are soft and assuming the Pats will win the game because of it?? My point is clear. The media is talking lazy trash about the Bills D, I showed why I think it, and am assuming the Bills players are hearing it to and might take exception. Your ignorant snark doesn't change that. I didn't say anything about a rivalry. The press is talking s*** about a real good defense that is about to play a rookie QB (no matter how wonderful he is). Players are people and have lots of friends and relatives they speak with all season. They hear it. But if it make you feel better telling yourself those things, go for it. Also, I am sorry your A fell off. We did look soft going against the best offensive line in the nfl while missing our starting DT and MLB but who wouldn’t in that situation. I don’t think these analysts even care about buffalo enough to know that fact lol I don’t think the players are mad about the media being idiots…the same media that crowned the dolphins last season when they were on a little hot streak Quote

By all honest metrics the Bills have a very good defense that had one bad game this season. In 8 out of 10 games the Bills defense has dominated the opponents offense. The same opponents for the most part that have made the Pats defense sooo scary. The Bills defense laid an egg for the Colts game, the whole team did. Coaching?? It happens in the NFL sometimes, pretty good teams do not go undefeated. Against Pitt they gave up 252 yards on defense – is that considered a mauling?? Against Tenn they gave up 362 yards on defense, with 76 coming on one play. The other 59:52 they gave up a total of 286 yards, 70 on the ground. In what book is that getting run over?? Obviously the Henry 76 TD run was the difference in the game and that is on the defense. They made a critical mistake on that play. For the Bills, Tenn was at full strength at home. If you argue they ran all over the Bills. Then what did they "do" to the Patriots? Who they pounded for 270 yards on the ground, with two backups going over 100 yards, at home without Henry or their two top receivers?? The Pats won, but it is silly and lazy to say they proved dominance in winning. Maybe the real story is the Pats run-d is actually suspect - got as much evidence for that argument as the Bills 'being soft'. This narrative the Bills have been proven soft this season is BS. Losing Tre’ hurts, and will matter, so we will see. But I hope and expect in a good way – the rest of the D knows they have to step up – and they will. That is what I expect to happen with this outstanding defensive group we have. The Bills own their record, and the Pats are a good team. The Bills might lose, but they are favored to win for a reason. I hope they are playing the TV’s in the locker room non-stop. The media are the one's afraid of the evil empire - why assume our players are? Thanks for reading. Go Bills! A mauling can't be determined only by yards. The defense absolutely had a horrible game against Tennessee. There are no reasonable justifications. Same with the Colts. Yes, the D got their butts kicked. And I'd argue that the narrative on the Bills isn't that they've been proven soft. It's that it's a legit question to ask if they can be shown soft by a tough team with a real run game. Especially in games when the Bills offense doesn't score a lot, leaving opponents feeling they can take their time and run as much as they like. The weather hurts our offense more than any other unit on the field today if it's bad. Nobody's assuming we're afraid. But we're absolutely on alert and know we'll have to give our best effort. 1 Quote

They need to come out ready to deliver a beating and impose their will. And we need our young guys on the Dline to show up, everyone knows what’s coming the power run game and screens Quote
Blank Stare Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 Need another locked in effort like when they played the Chiefs. They were dialed in and it was the most focused I’ve seen them in a big game this year. Since then, effort, focus, and execution have been wildly inconsistent. That and some untimely player absences at key positions have been the difference. Quote

LOL Bills social media team did a fluff thing asking them players if they could only have one app what would it be Poyer: GET OFF YOUR PHONE! Quote
Dr.Sack Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 6 games to go, 4 at home, 2 on road. We will be favored in all 4 home games, and dogs on the road. Going 4-2 should be enough to clinch the AFC East and gives a shot at #1 seed despite being only 11-6. The AFC is competitive as hell this year. Quote
BigDingus Posted December 6, 2021 Posted December 6, 2021 You make good points about how the defense played OVERALL in the TN game, but I don't think the defense feels great about that game either. Also, I doubt the defense is too insulted due to the media coverage of another team's defense. Our unit still gets a ton of praise, it's just the Pats have been on a hot streak & having a complimentary offensive style to that defense... we really don't. But yeah, the Bills are still #1 in yards allowed per game allowed after all. And even though the Pats are #1 in points per game allowed, the Bills are #2. Not a huge distiniction. Quote

Two irreplaceable players for the Bills D. For your convenience, a top five list of players that this year's Bills' defense cannot afford to lose: #1 - Tredavious White #2 - Tremaine Edmunds #3 - Star Lotuilielie #4 - Matt Milano #5 - Ed Oliver. The DTs are so high on the list because we have no backups behind them. Which is kind of sad, really. While it looks like we will have Star and Tremaine back, make no mistake that Tre White is all alone at #1. This defense won't be anywhere near as good without Tre White. Maybe NE cannot take too much of an advantage of White missing due to a weak arm and inclement weather? Star and Edmunds are not at a level of being “irreplaceable”—few players are. if they are this D has issues. Quote
