This is just as important.  Its not just getting the ball to the receivers.  Its holding that the ball gets there AND the receivers catch it.  We’ve had several wide open passes dropped this season.  And a handful of them on 3rd down (and would be conversions if caught).

Yards is yards and it doesn't matter how Josh gets them.  Josh running is one of the most dangerous and effective things we do on offense.  Let him go!  

 

In fact, I'd love to see designed QB run plays left and right in this game.

 

The notion that Josh will be injured if he runs is just a myth anyway, along with "trap games," "momentum," and lots of other garbage spewed by fans.

He will get some as he always usually does, but not sure he gets quite that many yards lol

Daboll will utilize Breida with the potential to get him out in the flats where his speed will pay off.

If these winds do kick in like they are calling for, around 50 to 60mph gusts during game time, the worst thing that could happen is if it rains at the same time.

 

One or the other,  but hopefully not both rain and wind at the same time.  But if it rains and the wind is as bad as they are calling for they short passing gaming is going to be a premium as long as the receives can hold on the ball and get decent YAC we should be fine.

 

I believe Mac will have a difficult time with the winds.  He has no experience in this type of weather, being a rookie.  So the advantage should go to Josh.  If he plays smart.

I think teams are a little smarter than that.  I expect they have run schemes for this game.  They also have passing concepts they like.  I could see them leaning into one vs the other.  This week more runs and more Allen under center.

It's pretty amazing that there's so much doom and gloom about the weather by Bills fans when Mac Jones grew up in Jacksonville and played at Alabama, and has NEVER seen a night like he's about to see in two days.

As far as my eyes can tell he doesnt have a very strong arm.

 

Is it worth stacking the box and giving mac jones the opportunity to throw the ball deep and get eaten up by the wind?

 

Can we make him only throw ball that require a strong arm to make?

 

Gotta stop the run and I think its worth the risk.

I think if the winds are 20+ mph you have to let nature play deep safety for you. The Patriots have a strong running game and we need our safeties in the box to defend it. This game will be won or lost in the trenches.

If it’s not windy they should make him beat us deep.  Either way.  They run it and have him throw short routes.  Be like a Belichick and take away what they do well, and force them to do something different.

So what's your point???  Who cares where he played his college football.  Playing on MNF and with potential wind and wet conditions is enough to challenge any rookie when its 32 degrees out.

Why do you hate to say it?  It's the truth. We ask Josh to be heroic even though he historically struggles in wind and rain. We ask Josh to be 50% of our pathetic run game. The majority seem to be insistent on keeping that open stadium experience,  and I get it.  And building a dome will cost an extra 500M.  But deep down I just feel if JA plays the next 10+ years in this constant wind, rain etc, the teams chances of winning a SB diminish. And I know I'm not alone on this.

People keep thinking Mac will have trouble throwing.  Most of his passes are within 5 yards of the LOS.  The wind is not going to effect those short throws all that much.

I want the wind whipping. I trust Allen in that weather more than Mac Jones.

Not sure I agree with this. Bills with Allen have a substantial advantage in the passing game. A very very windy night severely limits the Bills passing game. A guess it depends on how windy it is. Jones doesn't really throw the ball deep. The short dinks and dunks might not be as subject to the wind. The Patriots are more built on running the football. The Bills have to limit their running game. I doubt think Jones will be able to beat the Bills with his arm. I think a perfect weather game would be more beneficial to the Bills.

No dome for me. As an older generation guy, I associate bad weather with Bills games. It would seem somewhat artificial if the Bills played in a dome. Can anyone imagine Pitt, Green Bay, or Chicago playing in a dome? Just doesn't seem like the football I know and love.

I think we are going to see lots of new plays and formations from the Bills. I believe coach McDermott will play to win and not get conservative. Lots does depend on the weather too.

good morning 🙂 Im glad we agree with my post I am generally a glass half full poster so yeah I dont like posting what I consider detriment to #17

 

Would/could #17 be even more heroic in a dome? with no weather impediments? Probably!!

 

Man I just am not at all sure that a dome would ever really be a TRUE option based on financial realities. **cringe** Ive posted about this....a girl can dream.

I think this is a possibility as well. 100 yards on the ground for Allen would go a long way towards a Bills victory. But the Patriots have been pretty good on stopping Allen's rushing threat. He did attempt 10 rushes in the first Patriots game last year that featured high winds. I would also consider this a highly important game as far as regular season games go. It will have a similar "must win" feel as a playoff game. And while it is a small sample size, Allen averages about 2 more rushing attempts per game in his four playoff games then he does in regular season games. Over 10 attempts on the ground for Allen could be a good bet. His career high was 14 against the Jets in the 2020 season opener. Possible he could eclipse that number if the Bills find themselves in a close game and Allen is having some success on the ground.

Here are a few thoughts I have had:

 

1) patriots defense goes back to man. From everything I have read, the Pats have gone increasingly zone (cover 2 shell, cover 4) over the last several weeks. With heavy wind, I would expect they could revert to man and loaded boxes— taking away the run and everything short and actually giving us the deep stuff.

 

2) Bills change up personnel and focus on run game. I am predicting that the Bills for the first time activate DS, Moss, and Breida for the same game, and that we may see two of the three in the backfield at the same time. This may be stating the obvious, but out of necessity, I would expect a run heavy offense. Lots of two TE formations.  Lots of sweeps. Designed QB runs. 
 

 

Are you sure this isn’t a carefully disguised weather thread wrapped up in a dome wish?
