The ESPN app had a feed of Wimbledon matches several years ago where there were no commentators. Just the little score ticker and relevant graphics that came up. It was wonderful not having someone all up in your ear and trying to control your thoughts. It was like you were just another spectator at a match and just watch it in peace. Would that they could enable that for sports broadcasts. The Next-Gen-TV / ATSC 3.0 for over the air broadcasting has a number of features including for audio. Wonder if that could be an option. Could put on the radio for a different broadcast team as well. It's just a weird thing for posters to complain about every single week... Quote

Dukestreetking Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Gus Johnson and Chris Spielman would be my Announcer-Analyst dream team. Good balance there. 1 Quote

Fair enough to have a personal preference but Collinsworth consistently comes in second behind Romo in the surveys. He's simply good. I think he would probably come in 2nd for everyone's most hated as well. He is very polarizing. Either you love him or you hate him. Quote
Jay_Fixit Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 This guy gets more crap than he deserves. He’s really good. Quote
Southern Bills Fan Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 I don’t really mind him. He does a decent job of analysis but he definitely goes overboard with the ball washing of Brady, Mahomes and Rodgers. Quote
Amorgus Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 He's the Pierre McGuire of the NFL. They both have a special place in hell. Quote
Ross Murdock Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Romo is the absolute worst, period. He's so phony over-dramatic, And takes both sides on EVERY controversial call. He's the worst analyst over all 5 networks covering the NFL. He's the Oprah of sports. Quote
Nextmanup Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 (edited) Slowly over time, I have come to find Collinsworth almost unlistenable; he truly bothers me...a lot. Here is the essence of the problem: he very actively "sells" the game you are watching as though 2.5% of all NFL revenue goes directly into his pocket, and its his job to promote the game as much as possible. He does this so consistently, so heavily, and so artificially, it comes across as a disingenuous gimmick, like he's trying to pull one over on the viewer. He is supposed to be a neutral, objective, observer and commenter on the game, not a P/R guy promoting the sport of NFL football. He also sticks to simplistic, generalized, stereotypes in his commentary; he'll pick a big name from either team and then promote how incredible they are all game long. I LOVE AL MICHAELS; if only they would get ROMO in there with AL; that would be incredible NFL viewing! Edited December 3, 2021 by Nextmanup 1 Quote

The thing Romo did best was the pre-snap stuff. CBS clearly and blatantly told him to reign that in because some people were complaining that it was somehow ruining the game. Once you take that from him.... he isn't great. Not the funniest, not the best breaking things down fast post-snap and the going really high at the end of sentences is beyond irritating. Quote
2020 Our Year For Sure Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Romo is great. You'd see it if he had a better partner than Nantz who bizarrely likes to "correct" him by being pedantic about word choices. There's a little friction there with the two of them because Nantz doesn't just look at Romo as an expert he should get the most juice out of, instead he wants to prove himself and get one over on him. Romo and Buck or Michaels would be great. Those latter two are professionals. Buck has been generously and kindly carrying Aikman through these broadcasts for years. Quote

frostbitmic Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 The look of adoration in his eyes when he talks about Tom Brady, which is way too often, makes me think he wants to have his baby. Quote
