BearNorth Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 I see several mocks with Ahmad Gardner - CB Cincinnati going to the Bills at 21. 6-3 200, not your typical CB size. Interesting prospect. 1 Quote

We are at the point where we need to draft for need. Look at last year. They were being very transparent about “fixing” the pass rush and they took one in 1 and 1 in two. This year they need to do that with offense. It’s clear that we need interior offensive line. Fix it. And we also need a speedy weapon if we don’t bring back Breida. 1 Quote

Hyde and Poyer are the best safety tandem in football and they are showing no signs of slowing down. If there is one thing (and there is more than one) that McD is good at, it’s developing corners. He’s taken an undrafted free agent and a 7th rounder and made them more than serviceable. In Carolina, he made Josh Norman a star and never had a high draft pick at either corner spot. If you look at starting CB’s in the NFL (esp CB1), they are mostly first and second round picks. That’s just the reality. Guys like Norman, Sherman are the rare exceptions to the rule. i just pulled up this PFF list of top CB’s in the NFL, and they are pretty much all 1st and 2nd round picks. it’s just a position where draft position correlates much more highly to NFL success. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-cornerback-rankings-the-32-best-outside-cornerbacks-entering-the-2021-nfl-season Quote
hondo in seattle Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 If you think about the offseason, and not just the draft, then I do think CB is a priority. Not as big a priority as OL, but something Beane needs to look at. We're a Nickel team and trot out three starting CBs every game. Having good CB depth is important to the way we play. Quote
McBean Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 It’s me, McBeane. We’ll go all defense and Carolina cast offs in the off season. You all know the drill. Now, let’s get back to focusing on the season. Quote
Success Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Gotta see how it goes the rest of the way. I'm open to Dane Jackson emerging, or any possibility. If whatever they put together for the rest of this season works, there won't be a reason to make CB a high priority. They'll know more about where Tre stands on draft day, also - hopefully, he can get back on the field in a reasonable timeframe and still be a big part of next season. Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 No. Before the draft even happens there is a whole FA period. Once that's over and we see what's addressed then we think about what needs are. This is putting the cart wayyyyyyy before the horse. Quote

Obviously the OL needs to be addressed as well, but this may have created another need. I am not saying Tre wont recover, but with these injuries you never know. did Tre die suddenly? Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 No. Get a DB in free agency. Priorities are NT, C/G, #2 TE in the first three rounds. 1 Quote

He may be back week 1 but maybe at about 75%. Think it would need to go extremely well to be ready to go week 1 without seeing any drop off. Yeah, like I said…..he’ll likely be back for the start of next season. Tre’davious WILL be one of our starting CBs next year. I don’t see why we would alter our draft strategy because there’s a chance that he has to miss a couple games at the beginning of the season. like I said, replacing levi or resigning levi + how Dane and Cam play this year will dictate our CB need in the draft. O don’t see why Tre’s injury would have anything to do with it. Quote
First Round Bust Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 take the best of the CBs, or DTs, OC-G in round one Quote

Your thinking is seriously flawed here my man. CB are expensive. NTs are cheap. C/G are cheap. #2 TEs are cheap. I FULLY agree that those positions are greater needs than CB (unless we let Levi go, than it becomes more important than all but IOL imo). draft the expensive positions. Sign the cheaper positions (if the players align in the draft obv). 1 Quote
jahnyc Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 CB will need to be addressed either in free agency or early in the draft because who knows if Tre will be ready to play by the beginning of next regular season. If Wallace is not re-signed, then maybe CB is addressed in both free agency and the draft. Clearly, will be a position of need. I don't think we have much cap space for 2022, but we have definite needs that can't all be filled in the draft. OG, RB, CB and a stout DT are the areas where we need significant improvement in play or better depth. I doubt they all can be addressed next offseason, but I would prioritize trying to keep our franchise QB healthy by finding upgrades at OG. Quote

I would disagree that starter quality C/G's are cheap though. Dumpster diving for guys like Feliciano may be cheap but they would have to pay a premium to get a top 15 C/G Quote
Southern_Bills Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Short answer: yes ACLs are tricky, recovery times vary and results vary. Obviously I hope he makes a speedy full recovery but it would be a disservice to the team to not plan for the worst. Quote
london_bills Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 I really don't think you can, OL and RB are important. It needs to be more focused on the offence for one draft Quote

Tre will likely be back for the start of next season if his rehab goes well. We should let Dane and Cam play, see how they do, than have this conversation. Levi’s impending FA is a more applicable scenario to this discussion atm. Will we pay Levi or will someone pay him more? If he leaves, it will likely be a position of need in the draft unless we add some bargain FA vets. I don’t think we’ll be spending much cap space on his replacement if we let levi go. Being back and playing at an all pro level are two very different things, it almost always takes two years to fully recover from an acl tear. We are going to need to draft a corner early next year . We are not in horrible shape but this is going to hurt the defense which means we need the offense to step up and start playing like they can every week. 1 1 Quote
