Blank Stare Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Screw Hester this year. Yes, he was a great returner. Probably the best ever, but he can wait. Tasker should go in now in his last year of regular eligibility. Quote
MJS Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 What's the record for most times making the semi-finals for the HOF? Quote

Buffalo716 Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 Greatest to ever do it You can't tell the game special teams, without mentioning Steve Tasker Synonymous 1 2 Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 They really have watered-down the HOF with some of the recent entries. Lynch, Atwater, Dawkins, Martin, James, Law, Mawae, Warner, and Davis are all recent entries that should have never deen inducted. Tasker was a good player and a great story. In my opinion he is not a HOF talent, but I don't think these other players were either. So maybe he has a shot. It took forever to get the first punter. Maybe they make a statement about the importance of special teams by voting in Tasker and Devin Hester. 1 Quote

Love Tasker, but he is not a Hall of Famer. 1 2 1 1 Quote

GunnerBill Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 This is not a great list of semi-finalists. Perfect chance to put Tasker in IMO. If the HoF is serious about beginning to really value STers then the time is now. 2 1 Quote

Until Mahomes he held multiple NFL records for the best first 50 games by a QB in NFL history. He made it to 3 Superbowls with two different franchises, both of whom were totally moribund when he got there. I'd have put Kurt Warner in on the first ballot and said so at the time. I think he went in as a 2nd year eligible but I believe him to be an absolute slam dunk Hall of Famer. I get that his career wasn't as long as most HoF QBs but that wasn't on him that was on coaches who overlooked him and he still went on to be great. And that is before you add in the fact that the Greatest Show on Turf changed the way the game is played. On the others in that list that I saw play, I agree with you. But I believe Kurt Warner is a slam dunk Hall of Famer. 1 Quote

Hester was a return specialist and perhaps the best ever. But that’s where his play as a special teams player ends. Tasker was not only a return specialist at times, he was also a gunner on punts and kickoffs where he routinely made game changing plays; from downing punts deep in opponent’s territory to forcing and recovering fumbles. In addition, he had seven blocked punts to his credit as well. There has never been a more complete, all-around and impactful special teams player before or since. If it’s true that special teams are a key component of the game like every coach has said forever it seems, then Tasker qualifies in every way. 1 1 Quote

Nextmanup Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 There are a few names almost every year that get into the HOF that leave me cold--where I'm thinking "Really? That guy? He's going into the HOF?" If that's the standard at least for some, Tasker should be in there. This is not the big deal some people paint it to be. If he were to get in, most people would forget about it 48 hours later. Quote
