There is a story on NFL.COM saying Najee Harris didn't know you could tie in the NFL.  He even points out that there were others in the game who didn't even know the overtime rules as well!   Is this something they should know coming into the NFL, or at least have that idea coached into them?  This isn't the first time some players thought you couldn't tie.  Donovan McNabb said the same thing a while back!  To think that coaches wouldn't stress the overtime rules to their players seems idiotic!

why would you waste time on this? Who cares if they know you can tie.. Do you think he wasn't trying to score because he didn't know they could tie?

This just seems like those who enjoy the "Players(kids) these days!" type of stuff would harp on..

Regardless of his knowledge coming into the game, it was pretty clear when the ref said, "if no team scores at the end of 10 minutes, the game will end in a tie." before he flipped the coin.

I doubt he would ever NOT try to score, but thinking you have another entire quarter to play (as he admitted) rather than realizing that no you might not get the ball again if you don't score can change things.

It's ridiculous that a professional football player wouldn't know these things.  The league has been averaging a tie game per year, so even a passive follower of the league should know about it.  They even outright tell you the rules every time a game goes to overtime.

I can't help but notice you had to edit that post...

No it can't.

This poor kid admitting he didn't know there can be a tie had zero actual or potential impact on his play or the outcome.

Donovan McNabb had the same learning experience once.....unbelievable.

yep.  I believe the Eagles tied in 2003 the week before they played (and beat) us.   Week 3 or 4 I wanna say?

The craziest part to me is how do you get to that level without following the NFL? There's multiple ties a year? You made it 21years old, wanting to be a pro, having pro aspirations in college, and you never saw a tie in nfl scores? Or on SportsCenter? Not even being critical, just more of a how do you not learn this even by accident???

I learn new things in my industry everyday. I went to school for 20 years, have worked in energy for 6 years and still get surprised sometimes.

Ties are lame. Why haven't they changed that yet? Just seems like a waste of time really.

Agreed.  They should just do a shootout after 10 minutes.  But its FGs at the same goalpost.  Start at 50, then move backwards.  No increased chance of injury or anything.
