I believe Manny Sanders is a better WR than Brown and is an overall upgrade, but it seems we're missing that WR that can really stretch the field.  And I understand that defenses are playing the Bills differently with the whole Cover 2 shell basically forcing us into a short passing game.  But without a true deep threat on the field at all times like Brown, that shell seems to get tighter and tighter.  Against the Jags the only time we really got the ball down the field was when Allen stretched the play running for his life and found an open WR out of the original context of the play.  Within the structure of the plays, it was CONSTANT short passes to Singletary and Beas for trivial yardage.

I don't know what the answer is here because I'm not advocating bringing Smoke back even if he's available.  And maybe the answer isn't a speed WR it's just ANOTHER great weapon (although Brown wasn't a great weapon), which could be resolved once Knox is back and healthy--hopefully this week.

Maybe we should legitimately kick the tires on Beckam.  I think Allen would do a better job getting him the ball.

Maybe try McKenzie or Stevenson on the outside?

I just think in the last couple weeks it's becoming clear that outside of Diggs we really don't have any explosive capability on offense and Allen is understandably resorting to Hero ball because of it.

I don't think we miss Brown.

He had one season where he stayed healthy and functioned as our #1 WR.

We miss a WR that has size/speed element, and that's what Knox became this season.

We are returning to the smurfs again.

Do we miss Brown or do we miss the threat of a burner receiver?

I really dont think that is true....ALL of these wide receivers are pretty fast and get open.

What we miss is the milliseconds of time between the snap and the DL making contact with our QB or running back

Brown cant even stick on a roster right now, correct?

Correct.

He's "asked for his release" from the Raiders (who didn't bring him back when they released Ruggs)

Took him 6 weeks to be signed to the Broncos practice squad, where he was elevated for 2 games, played 6 snaps per game (no targets, no receptions), reverted to the practice squad, then "asked for his release" (though he doesn't need to ask, a PS player is a FA)

He just signed to the Jags practice squad, yesterday.

No.  He got cut twice this the year and is on Jacksonville's practice squad.   Yep.  He can not play on that team.

I did not like that trade at all.

Not a true deep threat?

I am not sure where that comes from, Diggs is one of the top 5 deep threats in the league.  Sanders is also a deep threat and gotten open on several times where Josh just missed him or was under duress and couldn't get the ball there.

Both are better deep threats than Brown, its more that the defenses have been scheming to take away the big play and our OL also has not been able to get Josh the kind of protection he needs to let deep plays develop and hit the pass.

So, respectfully disagree it has anything to do with Brown.  Especially since Brown was almost non existent last year and barely played when we had the top offense in the NFL.

If we need anything at WR, it's a big, physical WR with skill.  Someone who Allen can throw contested jump balls to down the field when we desperately need a big play or flag.

As good as our WR's are, there is no DK, AJ, Mike Williams, Hopkins or Ceedee Lamb on this roster.

I miss Zay Jones and his naked antics

Kelvin Benjamin, while with NYG, missed his sage veteran advice on where he was supposed to line up. Why do you think he kept finding himself in the buffet line with a to-go bag.
