Dr. K Posted November 3, 2021 Posted November 3, 2021 10 hours ago, Hapless Bills Fan said: I feel a bit bad for Lawrence, but part of me is Salty over the power of narrative. The narrative when the Jags drafted Lawrence was "consensus no-brainer pick. He was a generational talent set to take a cursed Jaguars franchise and turn them into a contender. A golden-armed prodigy taking the form of something the NFL hadn’t seen since Andrew Luck." So now that he's completing 59.6% of his passes and has thrown 9 picks to 8 TDs, the narrative is that "Trevor Lawrence is being failed by the entire Jaguars organization". It makes me salty because in Allen's rookie season, he was considered way too raw to take starter reps in training camp and preseason, then pitchforked into the first game at halftime. His OL was Dawkins -Ducasse (last season) -Bodine (last season)-Miller-Mills (last season as starter) - so 3/5 guys on their way out of the league and 1/5 guard who went on to play for some bad OLs. His top WR were Zay "13 ypg for LVR" Jones, fat Kelvin Benjamin (last year in football), and rookie Robert Foster. And yet because of the "narrative" that Allen was "a parody of a first round draft pick" (see Josh Allen receipts thread) etc, the "narrative" his first year wasn't that the organization had mismanaged the situation and hadn't put enough talent around him; the narrative was that he sucked. The writer John Gardner had a saying about the power of narrative to control people's minds: “Nothing in the world has greater power to enslave than does fiction” (The Art of Fiction, p 87). Like Marv Levy's quote (paraphrase): "If you get a reputation for rising early you can sleep till noon for the rest of your life." Once people have bought into a narrative it takes dynamite to get them to change their minds. Most will never do it. 1 1 1 Quote

Might be a little bit tougher matchup in an earlier round but I’d take that over having to run that gauntlet in the nfc Tiger Woods used to always say, it is not how many shots are between me and the Leader that matters, it’s how many other golfers that matters. I believe his point was if one or two players were ahead of him he trusted his ability enough to make up any deficit, but if there are 10 players between him and the lead, even if the gap is closer, there are many more variables to overcome. This is how I feel about the AFC. Way more variables to overcome. PS: per the bold part above, Josh Allen and the Bills said hi. Edited November 3, 2021 by buffaloboyinATL 1 Quote

Interesting because all but one of his Major wins occurred with him in the lead after the third round. Quote

What the hell happened in Tennessee then? I do think the run defense is better as many of us predicted with Star coming back. It will be interesting to see if Phillips keeps his game day spot or if they go back to Zimmer when he is healthy 1 1 Quote

I mean it's D Henry we talking about in this case. Despite the holding(s) not called on that big TD run, he still is the hardest in the league to stop. Although, Bills have done a good job against him up until that point. Quote

He is the best RB in the league and its not even close. Losing him is a devastating blow for the Titans. They will win their division but have almost no shot at the Super Bowl. Quote

Yeah it's a big blow for sure, but imo I think they did about the best thing by bringing in AP. He will still help them in their P/A game, maybe not as much as Henry, but as long as AP still has some juice left they are still pretty dangerous team 1 Quote
