With Possibility of St. Louis Exp. Team, What Other Cities Would You Consider Good Expansion Fits?

Don't be a fool St Louis. Take the money and do something meaningful with it. Replace some water pipes. Build some new schools. Buy some fire trucks.

There's nothing good for you in trying to make another billionaire happy. Take their money and make your residents happy.

Lol, that would be a good thing no doubt, but likely won't go to any of that. So much greed , unfortunately these type of important things that need help the most get overlooked or not cared about in the 1st place.

I don’t think bigger market or city is always a good idea. You need a loyal fan base. Salt Lake City sounds good to me. The Utah Jazz seem to do quite well for attendance even in non playoff years. I don’t think Florida or Cali should have more teams, they don’t even support the ones they do have.  I do think the league is longggggg overdue for division realignment. Given the state of our division I’m sure some would not like that. But I think it’s something that should be done. Rivalries are great and a lot of good ones would survive a realignment.

Good point about having a loyal fan base. I mean a place getting a new team I would suspect a lot of ppl that are NFL fans in said city likely have their favorite team. Unless just a fan of the game and not a specific team I can understand going to games and all. But all those die hards like us here aren't going to all of a sudden change favorite teams and start attending games just because a new team comes to their area

I don't know, that's just me.

Almost any place you pick will be close enough to an existing franchise to get pushback from that existing team.  Portland is an obvious choice but is within a 2 1/2 hour drive of Seattle.  As Bills fans from across NYS will tell you, that's not too far.  My daughter lives there and I love visiting there, and I think a team would do well.

I lived in Salt Lake City and the big problem there is that most of the state's population, and half of SLC's, is Mormon and is not supposed to attend concerts, plays, etc on Sunday.  Of course their church leader could have another convenient revelation which says it's OK to attend football games.  The big sport there is college football, with Utah, BYU, and Utah State all having dedicated fan bases.  I think the NFL might have a tougher time carving out a fan base there than other places.  One advantage is that it's not very close to any existing franchise, although Las Vegas is drawing fans from St George and other southern Utah locations.

There's a huge area in the central US, on both sides of the Mississippi, that's not close to an existing franchise.  Not including the northern part of the Mississippi, of course.  If St Louis doesn't get a team, I'd suggest Memphis.  It's something like four hours from Memphis to Nashville, where the Titans play.  It's farther than that from Memphis to New Orleans.  It's farther that that from Memphis to Chicago or Cincinnati.  Memphis would be a good location for fans from Arkansas, western Kentucky, northern Mississippi, northern Alabama, and southeast Missouri.  The University of Memphis has a strong following and the city is growing again following a generation of decline.  But if St Louis gets another team I think Memphis is probably out.

Oklahoma City would be a good location but I think Dallas would object.  San Diego always supported the Chargers well but I think the league doesn't like cities that didn't let the NFL push them around about stadiums.  San Antonio is probably far enough from Houston and Dallas to be OK, and there's enough population in the state to support a third team.

Montreal supported the MLB Expo's so well they moved to Washington. ;)

Who is going to pony up 2B for a franchise there?

I think your hating on Toronto because of Rodgers and the BBTS fiasco.

Give TO its own team and it would support it.

For as many Bills fans and season ticket holders there are in Southern Ontario we are in the minority here.

Topping my list are the International cities

1) Toronto

2)London

3)Berlin (they really miss NFL Europe)

4)Mexico City

NYC should be first on the list for expansion. It's nuts that our largest city hasn't had a team in decades.

NJ doesn't have an NFL team either.

Toronto...for expansion into different countries

London or Mexico City for the same reasons as above...

San Antonio perhaps...

Columbus maybe...

I doubt any expansion in Riverside due to market conflicts...no way the owners there would allow it.

Could London really work though given the time difference? Think of the London team that would have to travel to the US 9 times a year once the league goes to an 18 game schedule.

My only drawback is if they expand, especially to 36. Now you have 36 teams vying for one trophy. We went through a 20 yr drought, imagine how long it will take some teams to even sniff the playoffs. More opportunities for people to live out their dreams though and way more bucks for the NFL.

Award franchise to cities that used to have one, Oakland, San Diego, St. Louis (they get two), Jacksonville and New York City (also gets two).

I know the Jets and Giants are NJ but they do represent the NYC area. I doubt the league would want 3 teams in the NY Metro area (NYC,LI, NJ).

we owe STL and SD a team - like Balt and Cleveland - I am sure San Antonio would support one well and they could play a game in Mexico City against Cowboys and Texans which would be a draw...

Another team in LA ?  London sounds good but too far fetched when compared to these other domestic choices...

Would be cheaper to offer Jax $1B to move to St. Louis.

But I wouldn't be surprised if St. Louis just gave Goodell the finger and took the money, since they've been burned twice by the NFL.

Use the newfound cash to rid schools of asbestos and build casinos on the banks of the Mighty Mississipp.

$1 billion is a lot of money, but once in the hands of government it doesn't go as far as you would think.

There is a lot of "spend it because we have it" that goes on, without much thought of getting the maximum mileage out of that cash.

Anyone who has a wellness card as part of their health insurance knows this. You go to health food stores that sell vitamins and supplements at outrageous prices that nobody would ever pay, but those places cater heavily toward people using their wellness cards because it's not their own $$ anyway and they need to spend it.

So they buy vitamin C for $35 a bottle when it's 1/5 of that price at Walmart, for example.

My belief has been the NFL if it expands is going to do two as a way to balance things. SO my top picks of where I could see them adding a team:

-San Antonio

-Portland

-Mexico City

-Vancouver

I also think the league would consider going back to two division per conference (east and west) as a way to balance things better with the AFC East and AFC North merging, AFC South and AFC West plus St. Louis team, NFC East & NFC South merging, NFC North & NFC West plus Vancouver. Geographically the AFC East and North fit bit better then doing the AFC South which already has Houston/Nasvhille more West and even Indy whereas NFC East is a better fit with NFC South as you have Carolina, TB, & Atlanta all really east.

Not sure SD honestly cares anymore unless the Chargers come back and even then not sure it would be the same.
