He had a heart attack seven weeks prior as well, after a game against the Bills. (According to the article)

Truly the days of rub some dirt on it.

certainly the only NFL death, but it reminded me of a story on here a year or two ago by one of our historians (probably old man fan or Chand as they are great at reminding us of our past) how Teddy R. saved football.

Granted it was college, but football was brutal at the turn of the century.  I also remember, but couldn’t find in previous professional football leagues around WW1 there were still a number of deaths.

Thankfully the sport evolved and pretty good in 100 years of the NFL, there’s only been one death.  I thought for sure when Kevon Everett wemt

down on our field, there was going to be a second.  That was a medical miracle.

Thanks for sharing Turk.

Debatable but it was not a heart attack most of us are familiar with.

He was hit so hard his aorta was severed from his heart so yes in fact he died of a heart attack but it wasn't a "heart attack" most of us are familiar with.

From what I remember reading when it happened, he was a WR and was walking back to the line of scrimmage and collapsed. Died right there.

According to Wikipedia it was a "traditional" heart attack. One of his coronary arteries was 75% blocked and wasn't diagnosed. That was the cause. He collapsed heading back to the huddle after a play... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Hughes
