Hapless Bills Fan Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 https://theathletic.com/2905519/2021/10/21/how-jaguars-dl-dawuane-smoot-delivered-his-own-daughter/?source=spotrac&pc=spotrac40off2 Quote It was about 4 a.m. Tuesday, a little more than 24 hours after Dawuane had returned from London, where he had helped Jacksonville to its first win of the season against the Miami Dolphins. The couple had planned on a natural birth. Aumari had delivered their son Ahmir naturally, but she had done it at the hospital. That’s where the Smoots were headed when Aumari collapsed before they could get out the door. Dawuane caught her and helped her to the floor. “My only thing was put your hand underneath there and make sure this baby does not hit the floor,” Dawuane said. Quote When Ahlani came out, Aumari and Dawuane made sure the umbilical cord wasn’t wrapped around her neck. It wasn’t, but it was behind her head and pushing her head down. “Aumari, clearly she’s a superwoman. She just jumped into action,” Dawuane said. “She grabbed the umbilical cord and took it off her neck. The baby just lifted up. She took a big breath and started crying. We were like ‘Yes!’” Then they called 911: Quote Aumari held Ahlani in her arms as Dawuane tracked down the phone. Quote In a recording of the 911 call obtained by WJXT-TV, Dawuane sounds remarkably calm considering the circumstances. (In the background, Aumari sounds even more calm.) Thursday, Dawuane admitted he had to keep telling himself to breathe as he spoke to the operator. Mom and baby reportedly doing well. If Dawuane was still a bit jetlagged having just flown back from London, I bet that snapped him out of it quickly though! 1 Quote
