If you have a 4K TV and access to fox sports broadcasts through your tv provider, Fox Sports started broadcasting in 4k for Thursday night games on their Fox Sports app. Yesterday was the first 4k broadcast.

They are also televising all of the MLB playoff games in 4K HDR

To get the broadcasts in 4k you need a 4K Roku or 4k Fire Stick streaming device (both are currently available for $30-35) and also have access to fox sports broadcasts.

Edit: android/Google TV was added to the supported devices list (which means Sony TVs and any other Tv running android should work)

Fox, which also broadcast last season’s Thursday Night games in 4K, offers its live 4K sporting events on the Fox Sports app for viewers who subscribe to the channel via pay TV providers. This permits pay TV subscribers to watch the events in 4K even if their providers are not carrying them in the format.

via cable/sattelite, fubo TV, Hulu, sling tv, YouTubeTV, etc:

Games can be live streamed in 4K/UHD via the FOX NOW and FOX Sports apps on “living room” devices. It is not available via the web (FOXSports.com & FOX.com) or on mobile devices. Below are the compatible devices:

Fire TV:

Fire TV requires app v3.23.2

Fire TV (GEN 2 and 3)

Fire TV Edition 4K models

Fire TV Stick 4K models

Apple TV 4K (Apple TV GEN 5):
Apple TV requires app v3.23.2 and tvOS 11 or above

Roku:

Roku requires app v3.23.1 or above

Roku Premiere

Roku Premiere+

Roku Streaming Stick+

Roku Ultra

4K/UHD TV models with Roku OS built-in

I downloaded the fox sports app and tried watching it via android TV last night and 4k wasn’t available. But it still looked better than the cable broadcast or the Amazon prime broadcast of the game. It was at least in full 1080p HD and the sound quality was better than on cable and Amazon prime.

I ended up ordering the new fire stick 4k max (that conveniently just came out yesterday) so I’m going to check out the 4k NFL broadcast this Thursday.

Ive been wanting to watch NFL football in 4k ever since I got my first 4k TV. It’ll be nice to finally get that chance! I thought others here might also be interested.

Despite your efforts and doing a fine job explaining this, I’ll probably need to get “our guy” involved. Will run it past the wife, son and DIL first. I gave up on this stuff years ago. It’s an industry now helping people get hooked up.

We have Fox and Fox Sports thru cable (not sure about DTV) and a 4k TV. That’s all I know.   🤷‍♀️

Yeah you should be able to get the broadcasts in 4k. You have everything you need, except one of these: (unless you already own a 4K fire stick or roku express, express + or streaming stick 4k)

https://www.amazon.com/Fire-TV-Stick-4K-with-Alexa-Voice-Remote/dp/B079QHML21

Or one of these if you prefer roku devices: (I prefer the fire stick)

https://www.roku.com/products/roku-express-4k-plus

Then you plug it into the HDMI port on the back of your TV and then turn your TV on and hit the “input” button on your remote. Then select whatever input you plugged the streaming device into.

It’ll walk you through a simple setup (basically just log into your Amazon account or roku account (or create one if you don’t have one yet)). Then use the search feature on the front page of the streaming devices Home Screen. You search for “fox sports app”.

Click on it. It’ll download. Then just open it up and it’ll ask you to sign into your cable account and that’s it.

Just let me know if you want/need help. Feel free to PM me too if you want.

Also, If you tell me the model of your 4k TV I can tell you if you need to plug it into a specific HDMI port (1,2,3, or 4). Some 4k TVs only have a couple HDMI ports that are full 4k (usually #3 and 4 but not always).

It now looks like android Tv supports the 4k broadcasts.

So if you have a 4K TV that runs android (Sony, Hisense, Philips, Sharp) you should just be able to download the fox sports app right on the Tv and get the 4k broadcasts (I think the baseball game today is in 4k).

You may also be able to get the 4k broadcasts if you have an android streaming device (like the Nvidia shield, or the generic android streaming boxes they sell linked below) but I haven’t checked since I don’t own one.

Just FYI:

The Buffalo Bills game should be airing in 4k on the fox sports app this Thursday.

it’s the only Bills (regular season) game this season that’s being shown in 4k.

edit - I lied. None of the games are in 4k on the fox sports app today.

They’re not broadcasting any thanksgiving games in 4k.

Disappointing! So no regular season Bills games in 4k this year.
