Interesting rule I never knew about on the PS protections

This is a good thread. I didn’t know they could protect later in the week too. And this thread makes sense why Bills have seemed to only protect 3 every week initially this year.

Thanks OP.  Tangential but peeps seem to think protection is a guarantee but there is a window in which any player can be signed.

 

Teams can designate four players every week that are protected from being signed by other teams. This protection starts on Tuesday each week, so every practice squad player is still available to be signed to the regular roster of another team after their team’s game that week until the deadline on Tuesday.

Do protected players get a pay bump?  Seems like that would be only fair.

Chances are any player worthy of being protected is in the higher echelon of practice squad salary to start with. Not all PS players are paid the same.

I would think that is the reasoning.  If you save one and during the week a player gets injured in practice you may need it then.

Makes sense to me.
