Too early to tell.  Its hard to evaluate a QB on such a dumpster fire of a team.  Darnold proves that.  Darnold may not even turn into a star but he is leagues better on a better team.  The Jets team as a whole is just a complete mess from the top on down.  Who knows if Saleh can even coach?  Sure he was a good DC but that doesn't mean he is a good HC.

I agree that Wilson & Fields are talented and are playing on teams that have not a lot of talent around them.

 

The glaring problem is that they are on a pair of horribly run organizations. Until the owners fix the issues inside the office, these QB's are going to suffer.

Wilson has the arm talent the Jets are a dumpster fire.  Patrick Mahomes drafted to the Jets doesn't get his 5th year option picked up either.  With Fields its Nagy.  Why they dont go full Baltimore and implement the zone read and move Fields is beyond me. 
 

The organization Buffalo has become is impressive.  Its as much Beane and the front office as it is Mcdermott and the players.

 Bills plan for Allen year one was bad, the roster was too bare to do anything. At least they had the sense to rest him and pick up a Derek Anderson off street. I don’t see the Jets even doing something like that.

Conversely, Trevor Lawrence, who also plays poorly on a really bad team, has “flashed” and made some “WOW” throws. I would feel much more confident in saying Lawrence will be a quality QB even if the Jags are just JAGs. Maybe like a Stafford on the Lions.

In today's press conference, Saleh compared Wilson's first 5 starts to Josh's and said Wilson would be fine. Whether Wilson will be fine is still up in the air but comparing to Josh's early career stats could be misleading considering Josh was very raw and his development path is more of an outlier.

He also conveniently left out rushing yards and W/L record...the Bills that year certainly weren't any better than the jets.  Josh allen averaged more rushing yards per game in his first few starts than Wilson has total for the season so far

Jordan Palmer didn't help Darnold too much when he was being coached by Gase and playing for the Jets

Perhaps Wilson will be fine.  Above is leaving out rush yards and rush TDs (135 and 2 TD for Allen, 22 and 0 TD for Wilson)

 

Also leaving out the fact that Allen was considered too raw to start and in fact was taking 3rd team snaps all preseason, until McCarron got traded, Peterman shat the bed, and Allen got thrown to the wolves.

Josh gets unfairly panned for that first year. The offense around him was absolutely trash. For anyone who bothered to watch a game it was literally Josh and Shady on his last legs. That’s it.

My favorite part of Josh ascending to where he is is teams will hold onto bad Qbs an extra couple years thinking they will magically transform into a franchise QB in year 3.

Josh had/has intangibles in spades, even obvious in his first year and not sure Wilson has it and am positive Darnold does not. Darnold almost single-handedly lost Carolinas last game to PHI, a game a contending team can never lose
