Back2Buff Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I noticed this during the final preseason game, but Allen had a bunch of cupping therapy marks around on his neck, specifically on the right side of his neck. This cupping therapy is usually used as pain relief from muscle issues. These first two games, there seems to be an issues with the power Allen is throwing with. Lots of throws seem to be almost short, or lack the power to get to the open player before the defender is getting there. There also seems to be a theme where he is avoiding the right side of the field. I wonder if there is something going on with the right side of his neck. Here is a picture from the preseason game where you can see the mark. 2 1

Buffalo_Stampede Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I think he's trying too hard to put touch on some throws. 8 2

Last year, the ball seemed to be leading the receiver, this year they seem to be waiting for it, as if the ball is hanging up a bit. I didn't notice anything about an injury, but that may be a factor. There were a few that were over the top, but a greater number seemed to take forever to get there. Cuz when he was flushed from the pocket on 3rd and goal, he escaped to the right sideline, turned fully with defenders crashing into him and threw a dart across his body to the middle of the endzone for a Touchdown to Stephon Diggs. Wait.😳 nevermind..🤦♂️ 1 3

CuseBill Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 If you enlarge the photo and look at the contorted throwing motion it shows, there is no wonder he needs cupping therapy. But OP, this is an interesting find and some good sleuthing on your part. The photo definitely shows the mark of cupping therapy (yes, it's a real thing. Google it) but hard to say if it's an indication that he has something affecting his throws. Cupping therapy can be done for reasons other than pain management. 1 1

Wait.😳 nevermind..🤦♂️ That was a fantastic throw, without question. But because he's made a couple of "vintage" Allen throws doesn't mean that he has not been throwing less accurately than last year overall and that he doesn't have any kind of injury. Clearly, he's made some poor and inaccurate throws this year of the kind he did not make last year. His long pass to Diggs in the 4th quarter was underthrown. Had the ball been in front of Diggs, it was an easy TD. Instead, Diggs had to adjust and come back for the "jump ball," making a fantastic catch. He has also missed some open guys and thrown some "floaters" down field that were nearly intercepted, which were not throws he made last year. There's no report or evidence of an Allen injury, and some swimmer-style neck therapy may or may not mean anything. Let's hope it doesn't and that he's just off to a slow start and needs more game reps to get back on track. 1 2
Mikey152 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 If he was hurt, I doubt they would continue running those planned runs... I think the more likely explanation is he is making a more concerted effort to throw with some touch in order to throw a more catchable ball, and it is throwing off his timing in a game situation. Probably works a lot better in 7 on 7 or against air in practice. 1
