And I've heard PFF comes up sometimes in contract negotiations. But I don't know how you can accurately grade someone if you don't know exactly what play was called, what instructions were received from the coach, what the reads were, etc. Plus sometimes a player will change what he's doing if he sees a teammate missing an assignment. Too many unknowable variables. I dont know that teams use PFFs for their grades. There are advanced stats that are very helpful such as splits for under pressure, blitzed, personnel groupings. This can be very valuable to outsource to PFF rather than try to track it yourself. 1
Lofton80 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I think Edmunds sat most of the second half with cramps.

hamat711 Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 PFF had Zach Wilson graded over Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen last week. I don't care what they say. 1 1

The fact that they had Groot ranked 82 out of 101 and he’s nominated for the rookie of the week and had an incredible performance says enough. But, it is so easy to go on and on about their ridiculous rankings. 3 missed tackles in that game.

He does nothing to impact a game favorably for us. Just watch his play on the field. I think he has zero interceptions in 3+ seasons. Not that interceptions are the only barometer for whether a LB can play or not, but seriously my dead grandmother has better hands. No team hits on every 1st round pick. It just doesn't happen. Why this guy is still starting on our defense is a head scratcher. If we started Dodson Klein or Andre Smith at Edmonds position, I think we get better results. 1
JerseyBills Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Idc what they say. If you know football, you can see with ur own eyes who is playing good or bad. Don't need some b.s made up system to tell me anything. After they did Allen like that in 2019, I'll never take them serious. They don't know what players assignments were on any given play. Maybe the WR messed up and made it look like the QBs fault, Maybe the CB messed up and made it look like the S fault, etc etc...

The nickel (in all its variations) is the top defense in the NFL right now and the Bills run it more than anybody. In any case, it's good to see him get some love. Nickel has become the league base because of how much the league passes Milano is still very much a 4-3 outside linebacker.. he doesn't have the skills to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 or Mike in a 43 McDermott still runs a 43 under even if we're in nickel majority Edited September 22, 2021 by Buffalo716 1
TPS Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 I don't know how they grade their edge rushers, but seeing Epenesa up there gives it some credence. The fortunate son has been been a beast. Relatedly, good call (so far) by Shrager having him as one of his 10 breakout players for 2021.

Too many unknowable variables. My understanding from previous posts (not necessarily fact) was that they use them for their marketing site (e.g., Milano ranked #1). The team is much better equipped to judge their own players as you point out .. they know what play was called. I would imagine they also don't use them for other team's player evals as the PFF top draft picks / top free agents don't align to draft position / contracts from what I can see.
