For the reading and discussing pleasure of those who wish to hypothesize that 2 or 3 games outweigh a full season as a sample set, Congratulations!  You have won your very own thread using the "magic" of the moderator "Split" function

For the reading and discussing pleasure of those who wish to discuss the upcoming game, let's try to keep the Week 3 WFT thread at least loosely on topic

Enjoy!

Nick Wright is a talking head that says outlandish things for attention, pretty much trolling intentionally.

I'm down on Allen and very concerned but still don't have a big enough sample size to know who he truly is yet (this season).

But according to what you wrote in your OP, one more game will give you that big enough sample, AmIRite?

Are you going for the hottest take of all hot takes? You are delusional if you think anyone in the organization would be having buyer's remorse regardless of what happens next game.

How could you call him "simply not good" when he had an entire season of great-elite play?  You can't write off 1 out of 3 years of production just to fit your bias.

Just to answer this question, the original post which somehow became it's own thread was certainly a bit harsh or overreaction.

But I stand point the general point that if Allen has 3 straight bad games to start the season regardless of W/L no rational fan should be able to 'accept' this given his contract. You pay $250M for Mahomes/Brady like production right or wrong and it's not about personal like or dislike of Josh Allen as a human being, it's about exactly what he said post contract signing: "He was given this deal not for what he has done in the past but for what the organization believes he will do...i.e. win a championship"

I believe in Allen but not sure what exactly is happening to him especially 'that look in his eye' during the Dolphins game where he clearly looked clueless as to what is going on. There is still time to rectify the situation but the sense of urgency and pressure is very real heading into face a WFT that has had extended time to prepare.

In the end it would be so typical of this team to field a great defense again but have a major regression on the offensive side when nobody (even the harshest critics) felt that was possible. Is it too much to ask to finally have a team that is great in all areas instead of the complete opposite of what they were in the previous season?

Psssst: Shhh.

Don't tell Mahomie's brother or mom, I don't wanna get trashed on Insta.

Mahomes had 4 regular games with 58% or less completion last season.  One was 51%!

He had 4 games less than 58% and a fifth 59% in 2019!

That's with Kelce the truck, Cheetah Hill, and apparently one of the best offensive minds in the game calling plays.

It happens to Mahomes too.

Heresy!

Josh will be fine.  I acknowledge that he has had a not so good couple games.  I just feel like the offense,  Daboll, and Josh are in the middle of changing up what they do to counter a defensive style they aren't use to seeing played against them.  To me this staff and team for whatever reason have always been slow at adjusting.  Halftime adjustments have always stunk IMO and it seems to take weeks for them to adjust.  Whether that is on defense or offense.  I am certainly not going to throw the towel in after 2-3 weeks.

So after two games, ( throw in the last couple playoff games too) fans should not accept what they are seeing because of Allen’s contract ?  Offensive regression is typical of this team ?  How many NFL teams are great in all areas?  There’s a long way to go in 2021 (and much longer in Allen’s Bills career) , but expecting a repeat of a record setting season for the franchise is probably a tad unrealistic.

"Somehow became its own thread"?  With a post and a message at the header of both the original and the new thread, I didn't think there was a mystery.

Agree, it was an overreaction, and it was making a distracting amount of noise in the weekly game thread.  That's why it got its own thread.

Josh is playing bad through two games. That is all we know. He could play bad for the next 6 and then turn it around the rest of the year. He could turn it around next week and be money from here on out. He could play well one week and bad the next. The reality is none of us know. He is a young QB and there are no guarantees despite a great year last year. If your the Bills you still had to pay him based on what they saw though could argue why not wait until this year. End of the day he played well enough to bet the farm on him. If he flops it really sucks, but this was not a situation with many questioning if Allen was the guy.

Was he that bad against baltimore?  Both teams missed a couple of FGs.  Buffalo couldn't run the ball at all.  They came out and took a 7 point lead in the 3rd quarter, and didn't have the ball again until the 4th quarter.  And they ran 5 minutes off the clock on the next drive after the pick 6.  Could probably argue he was our best player against KC - not sure anyone else even qualifies.

Our lack of running game hurt us that game.  The wind was crazy.  Sure, Buffalo QB's should be able to "handle" the wind, but elements are still elements, and it was not a good day for passing the ball.

Losing Moss hurt us more than people think.  The combo of him & Singletary are what we need to have a competent (not great) running game and more balance.

This sad excuse for a Bills fan deserves to be mired in mediocrity and bleed internally with the pedestrian cast of talentless QBs we have survived for the last 25 years. Clueless posters like this are wasting the time and energy of devoted fans. How about if you can't make a rational statement you retire to private life.

You can always block the guy if you feel that way about it.

It's a little hard to fathom why, if Allen has totally lost his mechanics, vision, and confidence, he completed some of the throws he has in fact hit the last 2 games and especially the Miami game.

I never used the word "totally." Allen made some good throws. I stand by my statement and feel it's accurate. Not sure how an open minded football fan can't see that Allen's play was mediocre at best. The stats back that up too.

Agree, if Allen plays like crap again this week there are no more excuses. It will be time to accept that he's simply not good and behind closed doors in Orchard Park there will be serious buyers remorse knowing that he had a fluke year during the weird fanless covid year.

Washington has a good dline and but has struggled mightily overall and is lucky to be 1-1 right now. And even if they were a top defense Allen played extremely well against many top 10 defenses last year and has to show that again given his contract. Really hope he can turn it around and come out firing.

Lol a fluke year? The dude moved the football with literally 0 help on a talentless roster his rookie year and made progress in year two

I don't understand how this thread was started because I don't even know how to start my own because I've tried before?

But I just want to note that it doesn't mean the season is over after 3 games or Allen is completely trash, it's just hard to understand how a guy who had an MVP caliber season last year can be among the worst QB's in the league after 2 games in 2021. His YPA is even worse than his rookie season which is unfathomable.

As a new member, you are restricted from starting your own threads.  As a mod, I can do it for you.

I think in calling Allen "among the worst QBs in the league" you are stat-following, and not actually watching the game.  I find Cover1 and Jim Kubiak and a couple other breakdowns here very helpful in building understanding.

True, you didn't say "totally".  You said "Allen has lost his confidence, his mechanics, and vision".  So what are you saying then?  He sorta sometimes lost his confidence, his mechanics, and his vision, except when he magically recovered them to make some great reads and throws, then lost them again?

That sounds improbable to me.

What do you mean by "regardless of W/L" and "accept this"?

Now you're just making stuff up.

If you have the game recorded go back and watch around the late 3rd/ early 4th quarter, he didn't look right on the sidelines and appeared visibly frustrated with a deer in the headlights type of look which we saw a lot in 2018/2019. That was the only point of that statement and definitely not making it up.

Obviously he still finished with 2 TD's and 'glimpes' of the 2020 version but you get the sense he knows himself his play is nowhere up to snuff which the early season numbers reflect.

Again, 2 games don't make a season but the bigger concern is his performance going to back to the Baltimore playoff game and what some feel was a premature contract extension.

Hopefully after a few more games we'll look back in hindsight as simply a 'slow start' but until then the anxiety and concern is justified.

Of which game?  The Miami game?  The game where it was 89 degrees and sunny and 78 degree dewpoint?  The one where players were cramping up with fatigue and getting IVs to rehydrate?  I'd have a glassy look in my eyes, just from physical effort in pads and cleats in the heat.

Then there's context.  Between the 3rd and 4th Q - you mean, after we'd just completed a long pass-centric TD drive and were leading 21 to zip?

Or after the actual span between the 3rd and 4th Q, after Allen was leading the Bills on a grind-the-clock, 5:24 11 play drive ending in a TD so that we were leading 28 to zip?

SMDH.  I wouldn't be surprised if you saw Allen looking kind of dazed on the sidelines, but I would be surprised if it didn't have a lot more to do with physical effort expended in miserable conditions.

You seem to be backing away from the notion that we should all accept that Allen is "simply not good" if he doesn't play to your satisfaction this coming Sunday.

I'll take that as a positive sign.

who, exactly, are "some" people who feel the contract extension was premature?

I also find it laughable that some posters here are somehow tying the amount of JA's new contract to his 2 game performance thus far, and/or saying he's not "justifying" the contract dollars.
