While Bills head coach Sean McDermott conceded his team fell short of a "complete game" Sunday, the atmosphere in the home locker room was much darker, as to be expected.

Xavien Howard, Miami's All-Pro cornerback, described the mood among the Dolphins team as "like a funeral" after a lopsided 35-0 defeat to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Howard's postgame interview took an even more disheartening turn soon after. Asked if he was surprised by how his team played Sunday, Howard – who intercepted Josh Allen in the second quarter – said, simply, "No." Then the interview ended.

The Dolphins, fresh off a 17-16 road victory over New England, fell flat in their home opener, barely mustering 200 yards of total offense and failing to score in a game for the first time since Sept. 15, 2019, a 43-0 loss to New England.

Perhaps the manner in which last season ended for Miami – a 56-26 mauling at the hands of the Bills – still lingered. Had Miami won that game, or if the Ravens, Browns or Colts had lost in Week 17, the Fins would have advanced to the postseason. Miami's defense allowed Josh Allen to throw for three scores in that game, with backup quarterback Matt Barkley adding one of his own.

Sunday, Miami head coach Brian Flores was a little more verbose than Howard, explaining that the Dolphins "beat themselves" through penalties, dropped passes and missed tackles, while shouldering some of the blame for the lack of preparedness. The Dolphins (1-1) have a chance to rebound next weekend in Las Vegas against the Raiders.

Flores is correct, the Dolphins did beat themselves with dropped passes, penalties and missed tackles.  The Dolphins played the way the Bills played from 2001-McDermott.

Abd the Dolphins were LUCKY to heave beat the Patriots week one, they were gifted the game with three NE turnovers.

Never thought it would happen this year but I think Flores is going to be on the hot seat at this rate by mid-season.  They are in tough shape right now and they are stuck with a small, often hurt QB.

Losing 35-0 is a beat down. Dolphins did themselves no favors, but the Bills dominated from the first snap

They might’ve hurt themselves but it was probably the difference between a 24-14 loss and a 35-0 one.

Fin Haven was an incredible read yesterday.

Xavien Howard pretty much summed up that zeitgeist.

It's a good day to be a Bills fan when one side of the ball wasn't sharp, but the Bills still blew out a divisional rival to the point the fans and some players are having an existential crisis.

Jet Nation was also apoplectic after Wilson executed a Peterman special. Great fun.

Zach Wilson will be Sam Darnold copy #2 with the jets, terrible team with a too young QB thrown to the wolves too early.  Next team Wilson should do much better.

Yep. He was getting booed by the fans already.

It really sucks to be a rookie QB in New Jersey.

Looks like Will Fuller opting out of only the Bills game

Well as long as the new guy has his head in a good space, I guess that's all that matters.

Was he, game #2 for the rookie on one of the worst teams in the NFL and already booing him?

"Smart fans", nothing like giving him a chance, way to ruin your franchise QB.  So what do the Jets do again if they are at the bottom of the league, why even draft a promising young QB only to ruin him.  They needed a veteran like Tyrod that can really win a game.  Wonder if we will be seeing the great Mike White as NYJet QB this year.

I feel bad for the kid BUT it does make me very happy after that arrogant loudmouth Mike Greenberg wasnt already appointing Wilson as rookie of the year before the season started.

poor bastard. Nothings going to help little tua, and nothing is going to help jacoby improve that offense. the raiders are going to make them pregnant, as did the Bills.
