D. L. Hot-Flamethrower Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 I enjoyed the broadcast today, I thought it was fun. Not the tired stuff we hear all the time. Furthermore, he didn't act like football was splitting atoms. Kudos MM. 1
Logic Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Don't forget the time he tried to explain Moss's play via Einstein, Archimedes, and the laws of physics mass in motion. At times he was funny, like a kooky old uncle. At other times, he was groan-worthy. Really bad. Thing that drove me really nuts was that he kept pronouncing Gesicki's name with soft G, like "Jesicki". HE HAS A PRONUNCIATION KEY IN FRONT OF HIM!!! 1
BuffalothruMyVeins Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 That was the worst time I've ever had watching the Bills beat down an opponent. If he said "good player" one more time, I was going to cry. How the Lions won 31 out of the 128 games that he was in charge of that franchise during is beyond me. I now have a new found sympathy for the Lions fans for enduring him through those years, and now have to face their abuser on national TV on a weekly basis. I think they have suffered enough, time to send this guy to the dog food factory. Get in the truck, Matt, we're going for a ride...

ticketssince61 Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 One of of my 'favorite' lines that he said that all announcers say: "The FORMER first round draft pick" No - if you are drafted in the first round, you are always a first round pick. you never lose that status
BuffaloBillyG Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 I grew up listening to John Madden babble on about...stuff. Turkey legs, Tuff actin' Tinactin and just all kinds of random stuff. And his version of "really good player" was just "BOOM". Today brought me back to that simpler time. I'd give him a solid grade. 2
Matt_In_NH Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 He said some stuff that people will say is obvious or whatever. Like they stopped them on every play….except busted coverages. I thought he was fine and did a good job talking about the line play. But I’m not surprised he is getting criticized.

He was so awful. There was another time when Epinesa almost sacked Brisette and Rosseau got credit. He used some weird acronym like “JOP” jumped on the pile.

What he wanted to say was "Let's see if the refs called him down due to his forward progress being stopped". After I wtf'd, I figured it out and thought it was an insightful comment, inartfully expressed, given the refs propensity to bone us on turnover calls.
AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 I had no problem with Millen. Will he win an Emmy? No, but he was generally entertaining in an old school kind of way.

When I start to get agitated by a guy like Millen, dierdorf, or booger... I stop and think about this point. These guys aren't polished... but they seem to love the sport and being there. It comes across and is 100x more genuine than collinsworth polished "phoniness" which ends up boring and unremarkable. I always remember goofy things millen/dierdorf/booger says long after the game and laugh. I don't think that has to be a negative thing 2

That was part of why I enjoyed the broadcast. I actually said "I like the sprinkles at the end" to my friend at the same time he did. Then, no lie, I said "that's funny" at the same time he did when I noticed we said the same thing. It was so bizarre I had to smile.
Beach Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 i didnt know the announcers watched the commercials too, so i learned something.
Marv's Neighbor Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 a broadcasters 25th amendment may help.

White Linen Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Aqib Talib was awful when my sons and I were checking into the Cardinals game. For 2 quarters we were like, who is this talking like that?
