As in not allowing the back to ever do anything except double him. Or, had some other scheme to see that he was doubled every single time he was on the field. Heyward destroyed his opponent many times when he was singled. It was usually Feliciano. Massive mismatch. Steelers were licking their chops. Heyward was twice the factor that any other Steelers defensive lineman was. If the Bills had successfully blocked Heyward the entire game, (I know that is fantasy), then Allen would have been a lot more effective passing. We simply allowed WAY too much pressure up the middle. That is how you defeat every excellent passer in this league. Pressure up the middle. Steelers didn't even need to blitz to do it. They did it when Heyward was one on one. It sounds laughable, but it is possible that the Steelers could have had an effective pass rush with just Heyward out there and everyone else on the line just standing there holding their hands up to disrupt passing lanes. Yea, I agree with all of this. Even more insane is we saw Buckner, Heyward and Jones demolish our interior OL last year, brought back (mostly) the same OL, and then seemed completely unprepared for one of those same guys Week One. 1

I envision the Steelers going over film from the previous game against Buffalo going, next time we play them, this is what we are going to do. If they keep doing what they are doing, we will eat them alive. And they did. But I have a good imagination.😆

I know the Bills scored over 500 points last year but I still would like them to be more balanced on offense. Think Cleveland. Mayfield while not as good as Allen can still make all the throws but they can also run the ball down your throat with Chubb. Granted the Bills don't have a RB as talented as him. If teams had to respect the Bills run game then think of how much more dangerous the Bills passing game would be. A better OL goes a long way in accomplishing this. Without a doubt. I don't think Beane values the offensive line positions as much as some of us do. He would rather focus on flashier positions. I wish we had a real beast to rush the A gaps on defense. And I wish we had a whole bunch of beasts on the offensive line who were capable of routinely pancaking and overpowering their opponents. Bills need consistently and significantly above average offensive line play to win it all.

Maybe they thought Williams would shut down Watt again, so we could do what we did in the 2nd half last year with shifting resources toward Heyward. Not sure why anyone would believe that's a sensible strategy, but I do have faith we'll get this worked out before we face WFT and KC's lines. 1

I was hoping that we would put some emphasis on improving our run game this season. Adding a solid #1 TE that can block and is a weapon in the pass game would have been ideal so we can run some 2TE sets and switch things up and show different looks. Maybe Sweeney can be that guy? Idk…..but running 44% of our plays in 4 or 5 wide is a recipe for disaster vs teams with a good front 7 1

I don't expect us to be the #1 seed. I think Beane was true to his belief of having a year in/year out contender this past offseason, but didn't make the moves to surpass Kansas City. The only way we surpass them is if the DL is a wrecking unit and Josh Allen becomes the better QB to Mahomes.... I say better, because Mahomes has the most unstoppable 1-2 punch i've ever seen in the NFL with Hill stretching the field and Kelce occupying the underneath/middle. the bills just have to be competitive going into the playoffs. with momentum and some luck, i think the bills could rifle through. not just this year, but possible any year...or at least that the goal. there's so much that has to happen to win the big game. 1

Yup, just get in and anything can happen. The 1 seed is such a monumental advantage now, it's crazy, but for the time being it seems all AFC roads go through Arrowhead. Hopefully the emergence of the other AFCW teams can ding up the KC armor. 1
DuckyBoys Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 i dont think the bills place much value in the rb position McDermott seems to be obsessed with pass rushers Josh will lead the way again Seems he destined to be a draft horse for this team while others get to get by on mediocrity

After the loss they just say... we need to execute better. Yes various players played poorly. But the coaching staff did nothing to help them out. That is concerning to me. No argument from me there. My guess is Dabol saw those missed deep shots that were there, and got hung up on execution as the problem. Because we could block Watt 1v1 last year, we could give help against Heyward, kill off their interior Rush, and beat them to death with Diggs. This year not so much. Our OL like to initiate contact with DL using a single punch move, and they don't like to give up ground at the LoS. What should be super, glaringly, blindingly obvious by now, is that good opposition DL will avoid/swat the punch and attack a shoulder to make our OL shift their feet and give up ground. Morse was athletic enough to recover a bit and slow people down, but Feliciano got turnstyled or flattened. Eric from Cover 1's breakdown. 1

It's not like we havent invested... Cody Ford was a high pick and we just re-signed Feliciano, but while I hold out hope for Ford, Feliciano really should be the backup G/C.
