Plus he can't want an actually good team in Texas to compete with.

Yep, he’s friends with the Pegula’s, and Texas is probably the number one candidate for an expansion team. Jerry isn’t suddenly in love with Buffalo, he just knows what’s best for him. The Dallas fanbase isn’t as strong as back in the day when the bandwagon was loaded.

I'm guessing he would've been okay with them moving to Toronto a few years ago, in order to get more out of the team's revenue-sharing. Now, he's got a financial stake in the new stadium and he knows the Pegulas have strong ties to WNY, so he's content to scoop up the money from the stadium deal and still look like the good guy who roots for the underdog city.

I think Jerry is sincere here because he recognizes that at it's core NFL football is the most successful TV program in history.  And while Buffalo isn't the lead character or the hot sex pot on the show they are one of the more interesting supporting characters.   The Bills are the Pauly Walnuts to the Sopranos or the Festus to Gunsmoke.  The NFL TV show would be less interesting if the Bills weren't in Buffalo.  It was the same deal with Cleveland.

So you're saying we're either the token black guy or the comedy sidekick

(my entire frame of reference is 80s TV shows btw)

What Jones said was that he would prefer the team was able to stay in Buffalo, so he hopes they can work it out.  If PSE and the State/County cannot put a new stadium deal in place you can rest assured that he will be at the head of the line in demanding the Bills move.  The fact is that the other NFL owners are tired of being short changed by the Buffalo Bills with respect to contribution to shared league revenues.  This was made clear to the Pegulas from the very beginning and widely reported at the time.  It is either build a new stadium, or find someone who will.  Goodel has also said as much in recent comments.

I personally think this will work out but nothing is ever assured when politics are involved.

Jerry is in it for Jerry. I don’t care what the topic is, just remember that.

I remember a few years ago after the stadium renovations that he made some positive comments about the stadium and said he didn't necessarily think the Bills needed a new stadium.

There are a lot of reasons not to like him, but Jones isn't dumb.

The same deal in Cleveland you say.  The Browns were allowed to abandon Cleveland because they could not get a commitment on a new stadium, while Baltimore was willing to build one.  Baltimore lost their franchise  to Indy  for the same reason, and only saw the NFL return  when they agreed to build it.  Cleveland only received an expansion franchise in return for building a new stadium.

The Browns and Colts were historic NFL franchises but that did not matter to the greed machine, just like the Bills in Buffalo do not matter.  Their take from their TV contracts will not be a penny less if the Bills move, in fact will probably be a good deal more as the Buffalo TV market is so small to begin with.

And Jerry is like  Louie Pheeters, the town drunk, played by James Nusser.

Great.  We accept credit card, cashier check, straight cash, and even Venmo (although 1.4 billion might be too high a transaction fee).

It is going to work out. Hochoul, Poloncarz, and most of the Erie State officials and NYS officials know how Important the bills are to Buffalo. Poloncarz was quoted saying a deal will get done. Most of these guys know as well that their political careers would be in jeopardy if they let the Bills leave on their watch. Trust me neither NYS or Erie County is going to let that happen. The Pegulas I’m sure are going to be putting up a good chunk upfront and the taxpayers will have to take care of the rest which I think is fine. We don’t need a dome or a down town stadium. The 60,000 seated open air stadium in OP is the right move.

I agree.  As I said, I think it will get done, but people should not get complacent or fool themselves over what is at stake.
