Geno Smith🤪 Forgot about him!

In the division with 2 rookie QB’s and Tua going in to his 2nd year I believe we have to sweep  🧹 the division ,

 # 1 seed is the goal

Hey since when do we allow OP's to present reasoned analyses backed up by facts on this site?  Where are the mods when you need them?  Seriously OP, I really appreciate the work you put into this and the presentation!  A lot of folks had the same negative reaction to yesterday's post about McDermott not being a good coach against rookie QB's, but you're the only one who went out and did the work to disprove the lie.  Kudos to you!

How can you forget about him ??
You don’t remember the arguments with the Jets fans who’s got a better QB ?
BTW we drafted EJ in the 1st found that same year 🤦🏼‍♂️ !!

What's the all time stat for any coach?

I'd imagine this is not unusual for good teams/coaches.. This is one of those lame media stats that gets overplayed because broadcast booths have nothing noteworthy to talk about.

Belichick did go on to make life pretty miserable for Sanchez - and also got to enjoy, first hand, this beautiful moment...

After Mac Jones was named the starting QB for the New England Patriots yesterday, someone in the Cam Newton cut thread made a point that they were excited to see what McDermott would scheme up for the rookie Jones. After looking a little bit closer we are actually slated to face rookie QBs 5 times this season.

Week 9, Trevor Lawrence

Week 10, Zach Wilson

Week 13, Mac Jones

Week 16, Mac Jones

Week 18, Zach Wilson

Some comments were made suggesting that McDermott isn't actually good against rookie QBs... not that he doesn't ultimately win the game... but that he doesn't chew up and spit out rookie QBs like other defensive gurus. I wanted to take a look at this, and needed to make a comparison. The first name that came to mind was Bill Belichick. Bill has been at it a lot longer, but many consider him the best and most consistent at frustrating and confusing young QBs, especially rookies.

Let's take a look...

Bill Belichick

Sean McDermott

It's a small sample size for McDermott as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills... but he's been pretty darn good thus far. At the end of this year McDermott will have faced 11 rookie QBs to Belichick's 30 (Wilson x2 and Lawrence).

I am curious to follow along and see if McDermott can keep up the pace he is on... because thus far he has been GREAT at frustrating and confusing rookie QBs.

Great stuff OP, thanks for doing the research!

Thanks, he has also beaten every one of those QBs as well (Big Ben in the same season)

Yeah, that’s cool.

This wasn’t really a Belichick thread or me trying to say McDermott is better… you seem kind of defensive?

The whole point was to disprove a claim that McDermott isn’t good against rookie QBs… so I compared him to the guy that first comes to mind when it comes to terrorizing rookie QBs.

You’re correct. He lost to and beat Geno, Sanchez and Roethlisberger in their rookie seasons. Beat Russell Wilson and Colt McCoy a few years down the line.

Belichick is yet to beat Tua Tagovailoa.

Makes sense as Herbert's two worst games last year were against Buffalo and New England.  So even if these rookie QB's are as good as he is out of the gate I have faith that McDermott/Frazier will find a way to confuse them into a couple of mistakes that determine the outcome of the game.

It feels weird to think McDermott is on his 5th season here & he's not close to being fired!

It used to be unimaginable that any coach would make it through 4 full seasons, let alone not be on the hot seat with replacement speculation running rampant. This is such a comforting feeling!

And nobody is demanding to fire our OC & blaming them for every offensive shortcoming? SUPER comforting! I love this 😁

Never gets old.  How the heck did this guy get an analyst gig?

Not really worried about McD’s record against rooks.  He’ll boost that one this year, you know when we go 17-0 before we win the SB.

Go Bills!
