TE Hollister Released

Its not that.  I’m sure they would like I’d yo have him on the PS but Hollister is probably good enough where he can get signed to a a team’s 53.  

I’m a huge supporter of Brandon Beane but the move to keep Tommy Sweeney over Hollister is a move I don’t understand.  I’m guessing they went with the better blocker in Sweeney but I do feel that Hollister’s skills gives the offense a quick threat that can get open downfield better than Knox.

 

I would not be shocked to see Hollister making some clutch catches this reason.  I think this move is a mistake

The key to that sentence is "when".  Sweeney can't stay healthy.

This reminds me of the Edmunds debate.  Thumping MLB’s don’t exist anymore.  Bills seem to have decided that unless you have a Waller, Gronk, Kittle, or Kelce, it’s better to get an extra WR on the field than a mediocre Tight End.  We’ll see if they’re right.

No tears from me over Hollister being gone, not at all. I think Sweeney’s ceiling is a whole lot higher.

The other side of this argument is for an offense built around passing you shouldn't make a TE decision based on their blocking ability. An athletic TE with good hands is a good fit for that offense. A TE with drop problems that you use for run blocking is not. I have no problem with the Bills running single TE sets all year long. I just don't agree that Knox should be handed the job or that Sweeney should be kept over Hollister because he's a slightly better blocker.

When you run an inline TE the defense has to adjust usually an extra LB v DB. You can then run or pass out of that formation. Or use them as wingbacks. Hollister almost always would be split wide. They sometimes used him as a H-back type but I think Kumerow is as good a blocker. You don't use him the same way you would use Knox or Sweeney who do both inline and split out. Sweeney is not a son quick or athletic as Hollister but he allows you to do a lot more.

One of the worst te groups in the league for sure. I do think the Bills will play a lot 4 wide formations and I guess having a decent pass catching te is just not considered important in their offense.

Then there's the "snakebit by injuries/illness" track record.

 

Of course some players who start out that way do become reliable starters.

Sweeneys ceiling is a backup tight end. The guy is slow as molasses (4.83) and is not especially good at blocking for his size. Where is this whole lot higher upside gonna come from?

  Hollister had the 4th highest depth of target of tes in his class and can attack a defense at all 3 levels.

I don't think Hollister will end up on a practice squad, I think he ends up on a teams 53. We 'll see.

Hollister is under valued, Sweeney is the Tim Connolly of the Bills, they think he has superb talent but never health to show it completely.

Unfortunately his body seems to always betray him. Healthy, sure. But that hasn't been the case with him.

  Hollister started for the Seahawks weeks 7-17 in 2019 and was 12th in the league among tes in fantasy points for that period, he averaged 6 targets per game catching 70% of them.
