Well, find a Jet fan to take advantage of, they always way over estimate what their sad team is capable of.

Yeah, I’m in Jets territory and they won’t take that bet.  However, they are willing to bet against us with KC when the time comes.

There has been gambling on the NFL for decades. What in your mind has changed with this news?

Well, sports gambling like this wasn't even really possible 10-15 years ago. Now it's readily available to just about everyone.

Gambling on sports using your local bookie, I'm cool with that. Betting on a game on FOX network, using FOX Bet as my 'bookie', no thanks. Seems WAY to easy for FOX to throw a game.

Billions of dollars have been bet, illegally, for many years prior. The same temptations to accept a bribe have always been there for players, coaches, refs, etc.

I get what you're saying but the criminal element that you're worried about has been operating for a very long time.

Oh I know. A player 'faking' an injury, or a muffed kick is one thing. but a FOX replay camera (or 2) coincidentally not working is a different ball game. It almost seems to take the refs out of the equation....

cool.

I don't really have an issue with gambling, as long as it's done responsibly. But I do have an issue with refs/players/coaches throwing games. And we all know it's gonna happen.

Is there such a thing as responsible betting?

what? Only if you win?

Myself, I'm a responsible smoker....

Dont ask me to splain it....

And I've been known to bet once in a while but I refer to me and brother betting on the Bills as the car of idiots....when we do.... As in.... the car of idiots rides again!

If I had to try to define a responsible gambler, I would say, as long as it's money your ok with losing.

But personally, I don't gamble. I haven't put money on any sports game in almost 15 years. Even then, it was only like $10 or $20. And I haven't gone to a casino in 12 years.

My wife and I were in Vegas earlier this year. Casino was open. I thought for half a second of sitting down at the Black Jack table. I asked my wife if she wanted to play some slots. She was like, "nope, I'm good". I was like, "so am I". Didn't even give it a 2nd thought.

I'm not a gambler, so this doesn't affect me (directly) at all.

I don't see what the big deal is with allowing gambling OR with advertisements on jerseys.  If it generates revenue for the NFL, how is that a bad thing?

agree I don’t care about gambling.  but ads on jerseys can be/are an eyesore.

I forget most you guys are from NY

Here in Jersey I can legally bet, play casino or poker on about 10 different apps.

I have a guy from NYC I put in bets for and I get 10% of his winnings per month (if he won that month of course). Takes me 1 min to put in, I figure why not

Looking for a little help here - I'm in one of the states that legalized online gambling, and we're getting inundated with promo offers from the big sites - Draft Kings, Caesar's, etc). I usually just do a little fun wagering when I'm in Vegas, but there's free money out there now so I'm ready to take the plunge. Example: Caesar's offer is "Bet up to $5,000 risk free." The small print: place a bet up to 5K. If you win, fine. Cash out. If you lose, we credit your account with the amount of the bet (up to 5K!). You can't cash that out, but you can place new bets and, if they win, cash out then.

I'm risk averse on these things. I want to make the best possible series of wagers to come out, say, 3,000 bucks ahead with minimal risk like just losing the vig on the "makeup" bet. Seems like I should take a flyer on the first bet - something that will double my money if I win. Then if I lose I use the 5K credit on a "sure" thing to come as close to even as possible (like betting the favorite in some lopsided college game, then cashing out).

Ideas? I'm sticking to football, mostly NFL, but maybe NCAA to cover a losing first wager.

I'd read all fine print and disclaimers around this point "If you lose, we credit your account with the amount of the bet (up to 5K!). You can't cash that out, but you can place new bets and, if they win, cash out then."

In the world of this lifelong gambler that is to good to be true and if it is true then get on it.  Make sure there is no rule around needing to bet this amount X times over before you can start cashing out, or that the odds on the second bet must be longer than 1.5 - 1 etc...

this is awesome, but what does it mean?  Can you bet regardless of the state you are in, only in-stadium, etc?

No clue. I can bet here in Jersey , I mainly play poker though. These apps are awesome,  if you're into gambling- Poker, casino and sportsbook and tons of promotions

I have 2 buddies in NYC that have their own accounts and trust me, I put bets in for them alot because they can't from NY

That's what I'm reading closely now ... thanks for the advice!

I do think they're for real - it's the wild, wild west of online gambling out here in Colorado, with all sites in a race to gain market share - but it'd be really easy to get screwed by the promo restrictions if I'm not careful.

What's the over/under for the timeline of the first 'fixed game' scandal?

And with the abundance of prop bets there'd be ample opportunity to do it, even with teams ostensibly playing to win. Imagine some latter day Pete Rose in an NFL jersey playing QB and trying to force the ball into the hands of a WR who's just short of 100 yards. Or a long snapper who bet the under making a bad snap on a meaningless PAT. Of course, wagering has always been out there, and I understand that's a big reason why they make teams lineup for the meaningless 0:00 on the clock PAT rather than doing the equivalent of a walk-off home run/touchdown. The NFL dares not mention point spreads (Al Michaels though is famous for hinting broadly about them) but they're always there just under the surface.

Everyone I know has been gambling online for over a decade no matter the states they live in.  Hell bodog/bovada has been doin it for 25 years or so by moving website to different country hosts.  Guess I thought everyone was already doing it.

Or New York. They still haven't approved bids.

I thought the senca casino had a sports betting section and as its technically not under NY jurisdiction as its a sovereign  nation with its own laws and rules, any NY laws don't apply unless they have some reciprocal  agreement with the state.
